How plastic affects the ocean • Most of the marine debris is composed of plastics such as water bottles and soda bottles • Plastic bags are one of the 12 most common items to be found in coastal cleanups • Over 1.4 billion pounds of trash find it’s way into the ocean every year, most of it is plastic, and because of that 1 million sea animals die every year.

How plastic affects us • Plastic bottles take 1000 years to decompose completely, which means that EVERY PIECE OF PLASTIC EVER PRODUCED STILL EXISTS TODAY, and that in 30 years we might be living on a landfill • 4 gallons of oil is needed to make 1 plastic bottle- oil that can be burned to create energy.

  7. How plastic affects animals • Animals eat plastic, thinking it is food, then it kills them because of the chemicals used to make the plastic.
