Main Gods and Goddesses • Zeus- King of the Gods, God of the Sky • Hera- Wife of Zeus God of Marriage • Poseidon- God of the Sea, Earthquakes, and Horses • Hades- God of the Underworld See the notes about the Relationship between Zeus Hades and Poseidon
Demi-Gods • Half- God, Half- Human • Mortal unless given immortal status • Hercules, Perseus, and Theseus most famous of all the Demi-Gods • Had no contact with the God side of the family
Offerings and Blessings • Major role in Greek culture • Animal sacrifices • Worship was often • Zeus and Prometheus
City States • Different City-states favored other Gods • Athens- Athena • Sparta- War Gods • Depended if the city-state was war like or not • They worshipped them all though
