He wished to return to Our Lady of Guadalupe to tell her this, but his uncle became ill and he had no choice but to abandon his mission and care for his uncle.

She gave him a bouquet of Castillian roses and told him "This is the sign that I send to the Bishop to prove that I am here". • He returned to the Bishop, but found when he revealed the roses to him in their place was a painting of Our Lady of Guadalupe
