Science Project – Heat. Done by: Ang Ping Chyi (01) Megan Tang (11) Yeo Hui Kun (22). What is heat?. Heat  is  energy transferred from one  system  to another by thermal interaction . It travels from a warmer to cooler region. It is different from temperature and the unit is ‘joule’.

  2. What is heat? • Heat is energy transferred from one system to another by thermal interaction. • It travels from a warmer to cooler region. • It is different from temperature and the unit is ‘joule’. • A form of energy.

  3. Sir Benjamin Thompson • Born on 26 March 1753 in Woburn, Massachusetts, died on 21 August 1814. • An inventor and scientist • He is known for his expertise in thermodynamics. • Won the Copley Medal

  4. His experiments • Investigated insulation properties • fur, wool, feathers • due to convection of air • Heat was not caloric, but a form of motion • observing friction generated by a cannon • submerged cannon barrel in water • inexhaustible frictional heat • Measuring heat • devised method to measure heat of a solid substance • however, Johan Wilcke published his discovery first
