Compound Sentences • A compound sentence is one or more simple sentences joined together with proper punctuation. • The yellow pencil is sharp, and I will use it to write my paper. • (If you ignore the conjunction, you’ll see two simple sentences that would be strong enough to stand on their own.)
Identifying the Differences • Can you find two complete thoughts by covering up parts of the sentence? If so, it is a compound sentence! • Draw arrows to show connections between predicates and subjects. • Try out some samples on the next slide…..
