THE DEFINITION • The simple past tense is used to describe a completed activity that happened in the past. In other words, it started in the past and ended in the past.
THE USAGE • It used to express an action that started and finished in the past. • Reymade some cakes for me yesterday. • It used to list a series of completed actions in the past. • I finished my work, walked to the beach, and found a nice place to swim. • The Simple Past can be used with a duration which starts and stops in the past. • I lived in Tangerang for two years.
The Simple Past can also be used to describe a habit which stopped in the past. • I studied Japanese when I was a child. • The Simple Past can also be used to describe past facts or generalizations which are no longer true. - She didn't likespinach before.
