What is it? • A WHS management plan sets out the arrangements to manage work health and safety on a construction project. • The intention of a WHS management plan is to ensure the risks associated with a complex construction project are managed, as there are usually many contractors and subcontractors involved and circumstances can change quickly from day to day.
What is it? • The WHS management plan must be in writing. • It should be easily understood by workers (including contractors and subcontractors). • It may not be necessary to communicate the entire WHS management plan to all workers, however, they must be made aware of the parts that are applicable to the work they are carrying out.
What is it? • An WHSMP must be prepared before the first soil is turned and should be subjected to an ongoing review as the project evolves. • Many components are Generic. • At the planning stage the principal contractor must review their safety management systems to suit the proposed works.

WHS Safety Management Plans • The level of detail required for a WHS management plan will depend on • Complexity of the Workplace • The number of persons on site • and the risks involved in the work.
WHS Management Plan must Include • the names, • positions and health and safety responsibilities of all persons at the workplace whose positions or roles involve specific health and safety responsibilities in connection with the construction project

May Contain • details of the person commissioning the construction work, for example their name, ABN (if available) and address • details of the principal contractor • details of the construction project, for example address of the workplace, anticipated • start and end date and a brief description of the type of construction work that the WHS management plan will cover
May Contain • details on how contractors and subcontractors will be managed and monitored, outlining • how the principal contractor intends to implement and ensure compliance with the WHS management plan • such as checking on the performance of contractors and • how non-compliance will be handled • details on how the risks associated with falls, falling objects and any high risk construction work that will take place on a construction project will be managed.
