Conclusion, Main Results • Estimation for expected wage levels and their dependence on endogenous schooling choice (measured ability, social class, secondary school type, family background) • Monetary college rent of 46% (ATE population), ATE untreated > ATE treated • Nonseparabilities between the impact of observables and unobserved ability on wages • Data Base: Panel of Britain's born between March 3 and 9, 1958

Shortcomings of the data set (?) • Huge and overlapping confidence intervals (Table 3) – nevertheless, effect (ATE untreated > ATE treated) is interesting • Father Effect: “too much” > “some interest” > “very interested” (Table 2) • Influence of “missing” is significant, lot of other variables are not (Table 2) • Number of observations?

  4. „Abitur“ rents in Germany • Work in progress: “Distributional Effects of the High School Degree in Germany” • GSOEP 1984-2004 • Share of persons with „Abitur“ increases from 16 to 25 percent • OQTE is significant positive (0.2 to 0.4) • QTET statistically does not differ from zero
