Leander ISD will take steps to assure that lack of English language skills will not be a barrier to admission and participation in all educational and vocational programs.

  5. Tech Prep College Credits High school course articulated with ACC curriculum. Qualified high school teacher receives training from ACC faculty. Articulation agreements/training are revisited annually.

  6. CATEMACareer and Technical Education Management Application Parents notified by letter ahead of time and given the option to have student opt out of CATEMA. Students register themselves for Tech Prep courses during class (5 min.). Tech Prep teacher will determine if college credit is earned at end of course.

CATEMA • To cash in college credits with ACC, the student will need to earn a minimum of an 80% for the course w/ teacher approval. • Credits earned are collected in an escrow account in ACC’s database. • The student must create an ACC transcript by completing at least one course – no credit minimum to collect credits. • All approved credits are then placed on student’s ACC transcript and may be transferred where accepted.

International Baccalaureate Due to recent state legislation, students who earn the IB Diploma are eligible for 24 college credit hours in all public post-secondary institutions in the state of Texas. Private schools may also compensate students for earning the IB Diploma or testing for certificates.

ACC ECS orEarly College Start • Dual Credit and Co-Enrollment – • Up to two college courses free of tuition each semester until graduation. • Must have the drive & desire to pursue college level work • Must have completed their sophomore year of high school • Must meet ACC’s entrance requirements

ACC’s Early College Start • Dual Credit = a course that satisfies both high school and college curriculum standards. • A “C” or better must be earned for credit to be awarded at the high school. (Does not figure into HS GPA) • Courses/credit allowed for dual credit are determined by district curriculum team. • Co-enrollment Credit = a course that satisfies only college curriculum standards. • A “B” or better must be earned for an advanced measure towards graduation plans for Tech Prep, dual or co-enrollment courses.

  31. How is “free” possible? Citizens living in the ACC taxing district are eligible for reduced tuition rates. $54 vs $142 / credit hour (2009 prices) High school students with parents living in the ACC taxing district are eligible for free tuition under ECS.

  32. How is “free” possible? High school students attending LISD, but residing outside the taxing district will pay a per course fee, unless financial need is shown or the ACC class is scheduled on the high school campus. Developmental or non-credit courses (Continuing Education) do not fall under the free tuition standard.

ACC’s Entrance Requirements • Determine Texas Success Initiative (TSI) Status or College Readiness • TSI Exempt if you meet these requirements • SAT (Critical Reading 500, Math 500, Composite 1070) OR PSAT (CR 50, M 50, Composite 107) • ACT or PLAN (English 19, Math 19, Composite 23) OR • Pass 10th or 11th TAKS with a Math scale score of 2200 & ELA scale score of 2200 with 3+ on writing

  35. ACC’s Entrance Requirements • If not TSI exempt • Take THEA (Texas Higher Education Assessment) • OR • Take ACC’s COMPASS (computer version) • or ASSET (paper/pencil) • ASSET & COMPASS may be taken once free of charge with an ECS fee waiver issued by LHS counseling personnel.

  36. ACC’s Entrance Requirements • Leander HS offers ASSET testing on campus for student convenience once per semester. • Other HS campuses also offer some space for testing convenience once per semester. • COMPASS may be taken at any ACC campus with a test fee waiver – schedule a time with ACC.

  37. ECS College Credits Earned Leander HS averages 300+ courses taken over a three semester period Summer/Fall/Spring LHS students average 800+ ECS college hours during Su/F/Sp = $40,000.00+

  38. ACC Leander Center - LEA Spring 2007, Leander HS re-established an ACC satellite campus Prompted by City of Leander to provide easier access to citizens living north. Courses offered serve ECS students for dual credits, but are also common academic offerings available to the public.

LISD/ACC College Connection • Seniors are provided the opportunity and convenience of a lifetime enrollment with ACC on their high school campus before high school graduation. • Transition Coordinator and ACC personnel assist students through the enrollment process reducing the apprehension some students may have upon entering the world of post-secondary education.
