  3. Warm Up • Why was FDR overwhelmingly elected President in 1932? • Hoover’s failures (inaction & Bonus Army), poor state of econ, people’s desire for govt action against Depression

  4. Can you spare a dime? • Listen to the song by Bing Crosby and discuss what the song is about.

  6. Fireside Chat • What was it? • Series of Radio shows given by FDR between 1933-1944 • A chance for the President to address the nation

  7. Activity: Fireside Chat Analysis • You will be reading and listening to one of FRD’s fireside chats to the Nation. • How does he speak to the people? • What is his tone?

  8. Activity: Your Turn! • Working in small groups you will be creating your own fireside chat. Imagine you are the newly elected FDR, how will you address the nation? What are the important points that you want to make? • Outline • Use your book for help!
