Fungi Food • Some fungi feed on the remains of dead organisms. • Ex: Mushrooms • Other fungi are parasites that break down chemicals in living organisms. • Ex: Athletes foot fungus

Spores Spores spread in a variety of ways. • Some shoot clouds of spores in the air at the same time. • Some use the help of insects. • Some spores blow in the wind.

Yeast Yeast, a microscopic, one-celled organism belonging to the group of organisms called fungi. There are many kinds of yeasts, some of them of great importance to humans. Yeast is necessary to make leavened bread, beer, cheese, and wine. It is rich in B vitamins. Like other fungi, yeasts obtain food from the organic matter around them; they secrete enzymes that break down the organic matter into nutrients they can absorb.
