The MK Youth Cabinet is engaging young people in Milton Keynes by running the Youth Issues Ballot, allowing them to vote on local issues that matter to them. Some of the key campaign issues have been focused on life skills, mental health, and affordable things to do. The ballot will run from January 28th to February 28th, 2019, giving every young person in MK the chance to have their say. YCAB aims to address the top two issues chosen in the campaign over their term. Stay updated on the campaigns and get involved to make a difference in your community.

Youth Issues Ballot 2019 Election Information
What’s going on? • MK Council had received enough applications to fill all places for MK Youth Cabinet – so there are no elections • Elections for the UK Youth Parliament will happen at the Youth Cabinet Training sessions • The Youth Issues Ballot will run across MK from the 28thJanuary until 28th February 2019
What has YCAB been doing on the last campaign issues? Life skills This was the biggest issue in the Youth Election 2017 and YCAB lobbied to get online course set up with an education provider, but unfortunately didn’t happen. So YCAB organised FREE skills workshops last summer for young people. Mental Health YCAB made 2 educational films, ran a schools competition and a conference, created an eBook and an art exhibition to raise awareness and got people talking about the issues. They also donated money to YiS to provide counselling sessions. All In 1 Card Businesses are supporting the card though giving discounts (e.g. some coffee shops & leisure centres). There has been publicising of the card by YCAB in schools. YCAB also lobbied to bring back the weekly, monthly and fixed price bus prices too.
What is the Youth Issues Ballot? • YCAB have selected 8 localissues that young people can choose to vote from • Each young person in MK will have the opportunity to vote through their school/college – one person, one vote • When its your time to vote, you can put a X next to the ONE issue you think is most important to you locally • There is a space to say why you are voting for that issue, if you wish to say – this will help with planning the campaign • YCAB will work on the top 2 issues (the campaigns) over their term of office • Your ballot is secret and you don’t need to put your name on it.
