E N D
Overview • September 21st – 26th, 2008 • Moscone Center, San Fransisco • Approx 40,000 participants • Approx 400 vendors in the exhibition hall • Sunny every day……
Overview • Larry Ellison in key note: HP Oracle’s alliance producing Oracle Exadata Storage (server that run a dw 10x faster) • HP server is the building block for the: Oracle Database Machine • Theme of conference: GREEN (reduce, reuse and recycle everything – smart energy, paper, food containers, etc) • Demo grounds, exhibition hall, SIG sessions, hands on session, regular seminar sessions, specific ‘Green’ sessions, free certification exam write and the ‘Unconference’ Lounge
Overview • Oracle’s direction: focus on Fusion Middleware Technology • Interconnecting acquired vendors such as BEA, Hyperion, Realtek and expanding products out to existing user base of Oracle EBS, JDE & PSoft • Communication and learning: UPK (User Productivity Kit) and Oracle Mix (interactive blog site for users) • Oracle EBS tracks focused on upgrading to R12, how EBS can accommodate IFRS (International Financial Reporting Standards) and announcement of 9 new EBS CRM related products
9 New EBS Products • Demand Signal Repository – sales retail repository • Advanced Planning Command Center – built on top of Advanced Planning and does for Supply Chain what Hyperion does for Financials • Service Parts Planning – marketing service • Manufacturing Operations Center – for shop floor equipment monitoring • Deal Management – for price negotiation in contracts • Site Hub – manages locations independent from asset • Landed Cost Management – tracks import shipment costs • Supplier Ship & Debit – product revenue management for distributors to respond to market conditions • Price Protection – handles changing discounts between distributors and manufacturers in contractual agreements
R12 Considerations • Oracle EBS sessions focused on R12: pain points but incredible value / new functionality • Consideration for upgrades: • Must be on minimum 10g database • Expect at least 10% growth in server requirements; one company went from 13 terrabyte DB to 14.3 terrabyte with upgrade • Mandatory New functionality: • EBTax – separate tax engine – no longer in AP / AR • SLA – subledger accounting / intercompany accounting – completely separate tables • Separate Payment module – bank model • Engage banks early because payment format is XML or nothing
R12 Considerations • Test ALL reports; table structure has changed so reconciliation reports especially need to be tested. All reports XML. • Modified PL/SQL technical reports are not supported in R12 • Multi-org access for purchasing • Separate tables for suppliers (data must be extremely clean) • Project accounting data must be ‘upgraded’ as post upgrade step for existing transactions to be adjusted for SLA • Strongly recommend volume testing • Archive and migrate only required data if possible • In many cases, business process changes arose • Training is paramount! • Live on R12: Scottish Govt, LG, Cisco, San Diego State University, Facebook, HiSoft, American Transmission Company……
Upcoming Conferences • Collaborate 2009 – May 2009: Orlando, Florida • OpenWorld 2009 – Oct 2009: San Francisco, CA
