The Writing Workshop We teach that • reading is a model for writing. • the writing process is critical. • conventions and grammar greatly impact writing.
Units of Study Sixth grade units of study may include • Personal Narrative • Persuasive Essay • Informational Essay • Literary Essay • Test Taking Strategies • Playwriting
Units of Study • In every unit, students will focus on • sentence structure • capitalization • punctuation • spelling • word choice
Homework • Writer’s notebook entries • Drafting work • Revision and editing work • Grammar work • Publishing
Grades • Students will be graded on the following: • Writing Work • Word Work (grammar and conventions) • Tests and Quizzes • Homework • Class Work
Parental Involvement • Check the quality of your child’s work. • Check to see that your child has the supplies and materials s/he needs. • Check the planner. • Make sure the binder is organized. • Sign graded work, quizzes, and tests.
