  2. Genre • Informational Nonfiction -A detailed composition that sets out to explain something by presenting facts about it.

  3. Strategy • Summarize -Remind students that a summary is a retelling of the most important facts, ideas, or events in a text. You should summarize using your own words.

  4. Skill • Main Idea and Details -The main idea is the most important point of a paragraph or an entire nonfiction text. Supporting details are statements that help prove the point or explain the main idea.

  5. Climate (noun) • The average weather conditions at a place throughout the year.

  6. Silken (Adj.) • Soft, smooth, and shining

  7. Lumbering (verb) • Moving about in a clumsy way

  8. Swallows (verb) • Takes in food or liquid through the mouth and passes it down the throat into the stomach.

  9. Lurk (verb) • To lie hidden

  10. Shimmer (Adj.) • To shine with a soft light

  11. Eerie (Adj.) • Strange in a scary way
