Rotary’s Mission Statement on Youth “It is the responsibility of each Rotarian to prepare the youth – all young people up to the age of 30 – by improving their life skills to ensure a better future, while recognizing the diversity of their needs”.
District 3300, Malaysia is very involved in Youth Activities ROTARACT : • We have 28 Rotaract Clubs with a total membership of about 500 Rotaracters. • Most of our Rotaract Clubs now are University based.
INTERACT : • Our district has one of the biggest number of Interact Clubs in the Rotary world. • We have more than 160 Interact Clubs with almost 9,000 Interacters. • Most Rotary Clubs sponsor at least one Interact Clubs. • Many like my own club sponsors 9 Interact Clubs. • With 3 Rotarian Advisers to each Interact club, Interact becomes one of the main activities of the Rotary Clubs.
ROTARACT • A Rotary International programme for young adults from the ages of 18 to 30. • A Rotaract Club can be institution or community based.
District Rotaract Assembly (DRA) • An annual event where the in-coming Rotaract Club Board of Directors are trained. • In-coming Governor, DRC, DRR, should be fully involved in the training. • Sponsoring Rotary Clubs should provide financial assistance to the Rotaractors to attend as stated in the Rotary Mission Statement on Rotaract. District Rotaract Conference (DRC) • An annual event like our District Conference. • Sponsorship of Rotaractors to attend is not • compulsory though helpful.
Rotaract Club Istallations • Sponsoring Rotary Clubs render support & motivation by attending their Rotaract Clubs’ Installation. • Sometimes, the Rotary Club President may be given the honour to be the Guest-of-Honour. Rotaract Club Advisers • Rotarian Advisers must attend Rotaract Clubs’ • Board Meetings. Attendance at General Meetings is • strongly encouraged. • We advise that senior Rotarians who are both • knowledgeable and have influence over club • matters be assigned as Rotaract Club’s advisers.
Asian Pacific Regional Rotaract Conference (APRRC) • A regional Rotaract event initiated by PDG Alex Mak from Hong Kong in 2004. • Rotaracters from all the countries in the Asia Pacific are encouraged to attend. • The first one was held in Hong Kong and I was honoured to be part of that first APRRC. • Credit must be given to PDG Alex Mak for the vision, dedication and personal sacrifice in terms of time and money to initiate and organise the first APRRC. • It is one of the best regional activities to unite Rotaract in our region.
INTERACT • One of the Rotary’s most successful programs for the youth. • Interact is for children between the age of 14 and 18. • Interact Clubs can be school based or community based.
DUTY AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF ROTARY CLUB AND ROTARIANS ADVISERS • Must attend the Interact Club meetings otherwise meetings not valid • Assist and guide in running of their Club’s activities. • Ensure punctuality, decorum and proper meeting procedures. • Allow the Interacters to plan & organize activities – do not plan for them – do not provide financial assistance. • Attend the monthly Youth Service Committee Meeting to report on their Interact Clubs. • We have our own District Interact Adviser’ Guide.
INTERACT CLUBS ACTIVITIES • Interact Leadership Training Seminar (ILTS) - To train incoming Interact Club Board of Directors - Preferably in March/April but not after June • Dialogue with School Principals & Teacher Advisers - To exchange information & improve relations • Rotarian Advisers’ Fireside - To equip Rotarian advisers on duties of Rotarian advisers • Interact Coordinating Council (ICC) - To coordinate activities of all Interact Clubs • District Interact Conference (DIC) - Annual event preferably before December - Rotary must sponsor Club Presidents & Secretaries to attend • Joint Rotary-Rotaract-Interact Activities - To promote better Rotary-Rotaract-Interact relations
Rotary-Rotaract-Interact Activities • Every attempt must be made to enhance closer Rotary-Rotaract-Interact relationships. • Rotaractors are potential Rotarians and Interactors are potential Rotaractors. • Implement projects involving Rotaractors and Interactors as Partners-in-Service.
Rotary Youth Leadership Award • RYLA is a youth leadership programme aimed to enhance the qualities of leadership, good citizenship, personal development and self-confidence of our youth. • For young people between the ages 14 to 30. • Often socially and economically disadvantaged youth with leadership potential are invited to participate in the RYLA programme. • Programme usually between 7 to 10 days • D3300 organises at least one RYLA each year. About 30-60 youth participates in our district RYLA.
