6LoWPAN WG, IETF70, Vancouver Commissioning in 6LoWPAN Ki-Hyung Kim (picosNet Corp/Ajou University) and S. Daniel Park (SAMSUNG Electronics)
The Goal of the Commissioning • Defines the procedure taken by 6LoWPAN devices when they first start operation. • Involves starting a new network, becoming part of existing network and obtaining IP settings.
Terminology • Active Scan • Association • Coordinator • ED Scan • Full Function Device (FFD) • Neighbor Table • PAN Id • Passive Scan • Personal Operating Space (POS) • Reduced Function Device (RFD) • Short Address
Bootstrapping • Associating with the network and obtaining IPv6 address. • Specifically, it includes the process of • starting the network, • associating with other nodes, • orphaning a previous network • obtaining aunique IPv6 address, • and constructing security credentials for 6LoWPAN
Bootstrapping Procedure • Consists of the following steps • Orphaning a previous network • Scanning through channels • Starting a new network • Joining the network with association • Joining the network without association • Setting the beacon data structure • Assigning the short address • Obtaining IPv6 address
Obtaining IPv6 address • IPv6 Address • Interface identifier • EUI-64 identifier • 16 bit pan ID + 16 bit short address • Duplicated Address Detection • Send ICMPv6 Neighbor Solicitation • Wait for NA_WAIT_TIME • Network Prefix • IPv6 routers stored the network prefix • ICMPv6 Router Advertisement
Next Steps • Feedback is welcome • Any comments/suggestions? • Is the WG interested in this draft as a WG item?
