Unit 5Intersections Instructor: James Thornburgh
Agenda • What are geometric intersections? • Visibility • Line and Plane Intersections • Object Intersections • What are geometric developments? • Developments
Geometric Intersections • What are geometric intersections? • How objects meet, and relate to each other • Two Surfaces meet to form a Line • A line and a Surface meet to form a point • Pipe going through a wall • Two Solid objects that will meet • End cuts on Pipes that will be welded
Visibility • Trace back from to an adjacent view from the intersection • Which ever line is hit first is visible
Line and Plane Int. • Edge View Method • Find a True Length Line • Find one parallel to folding plane • Horizontal in Top or Front View • Vertical in Side View • Go one view away TL Front Side
Line and Plane Int. • Create a folding line Perpendicular to that line • Create the new Auxiliary View • Project position from adjacent view • Use Distance from 2 views away TL Front Side
2 Objects • Use Adjacent view to find point of intersection • Project back through all the views
Geometric Developments • What are geometric Developments? • Outside surface of a object laid flat • Flattening out an object (Flat Pattern) • Sheet Metal parts • Cardboard packaging
Lab Assignments & Homework • Lab • Workbook 13.12, 13.13 • Sheet Metal Flat Pattern (on Website) • Homework • Chapter Questions 1-6 • Online True-False Quiz
