HPS TDAQ Review Sergey Boyarinov, Ben Raydo JLAB June 18, 2014
Requirements Up to 50kHz event rate Up to 100MB/s data rate Dead time < 1%
System Overview Calorimeter Readout: 442 channels of 12bit 250MHz Flash ADCs for Calorimeter (2 VXS crates, 4 ROCs) SVT readout system (1 ATCA crate, 8x2 ROCs) 85ps resolution pipeline TDCs with discriminators (2 VME crates, 2 ROCs) Total 5 crates, 22 ROCs FADC-based trigger system: 2 GTPs as crate controllers and SSP as final trigger decision JLAB CODA DAQ software
All modules are available FADC250 Flash ADC Crate Trigger Processor Sub-System Processor Signal Distribution Trigger Interface
ECAL Trigger Overview Clusters Pulses Triggers GTP • FADC (Flash Analog-to-Digital Converter) • 250Msps, 12bit pulse digitizer for: Readout & Trigger (energy, timing) • GTP (Global Trigger Processor) • Collects pulse data from all FADC channels in crate • Searches for clusters on half (top or bottom) of the ECAL • Sends cluster energy, time, position, hit count to SSP for trigger processing • SSP (Sub-System Processor) • Collects clusters from top & bottom halves of ECAL from GTP • Performs cuts on individual clusters: energy, hit count • Performs cuts on paired clusters: energy sum/difference, coplanar, distance-energy • Delivers trigger signals to TS (Trigger Supervisor) for readout GTP 6 FADC channels available for scintillators – usable in trigger
Conclusion • TDAQ (JLAB part of DAQ and Trigger) hardware 100% available and installed, firmware development complete • CODA software is operational using recent front end libraries and CLAS-era backend • Computing/network design is finished and system partially available, remaining equipment will be ordered next week and will be operational by the end of July • Trigger and DAQ commissioning and testing just started and will be finished by the end of August, following by ECAL connection and testing • Testing includes TDAQ event rate and data rate measurements
