Chloroplasts • Are only found in plant cells. • Replace mitochondria • Produce energy from sunlight • Thylakoids trap the sunlight • A group of thylakoids is called a granum.
Function • This cells purpose is to make food • It takes water and CO2 and uses sunlight to make it into sugars
Interesting Facts • Give pants their green color. • Is necessary in photosynthesis. • The one unique organelle that only plants have.
What do They Look Like? • Made of nine microtubules arranged in a circular shape • gives them a cylinder appearance
Where are They Located? • Found in animal cells and most protist cells • Float around in the cytoplasm • Located near the nucleus • Found in pairs
Function • Helps in cell division • nucleation points for spindle formation during mitosis and meiosis • The basal body for cilia and flagella
