  1. Shaine Thompson Derek Moye Dan Leach Dave Winklebleck MeraDuvene Intramural Sports

  2. Background Information • INTRAMURAL SPORTS ARE HELD ALL AROUND COLLEGE CAMPUSES. • IM SPORTS ARE FUN, FULFILLING, SOCIAL, A STRESS RELIEVER AND COMPETITIVE. • WANTED TO EVALUTE THE CORRELATIONS BETWEEN ALL THE POSITIVE ASPECTS WITH THE IMPORTANT ASPECTS OF A COLLEGE STUDENT. • EASY TO RELATE WITH COLLEGE STUDENTS

  3. Perceived Change in Satisfaction • Due to participation in activities • (Dependent Variable • G.P.A. • Student’s Grades • (Dependent Variable) • Participation in Extracurricular Activities • Like Intramural Sports • (Independent Variable) Variables Used

  4. A student who participates in intramural sports will have a better feeling of satisfaction • Variables: • Perceived Change in Satisfaction • Participation in Extracurricular Activities Hypothesis #1

  5. There is a relationship between G.P.A. and participation in extracurricular activities • Variables: • G.P.A. • Participation in Extracurricular Activities Hypothesis #2

  6. Survey Construction • Best idea was to split up work and each member created 3 unique questions • Made sure directions were clear • Made sure it was in an easy to read format for participants

  7. Wanted to make sure people would participate Personal Relevance – Topic that was relevant Importance – G.P.A. and sports are important to most Legitimacy – Legitimate survey from fellow students Convenience – Online, took only 5 minutes Anonymity – Anonymous online survey Data Collection

  8. Getting good grades is important to me: • 1) Strongly Agree • 2) Somewhat Agree • 3) Neither Agree nor Disagree • 4) Somewhat Disagree • 5) Strongly Disagree • Question on a likert scale Example Question

  9. Entered survey questions onto www.surveymonkey.com • Fast, Free and Easy! • The website gives a link to the survey you just created • Sent the link for the survey out to students in various classes including RPTM, Economics, CSD • Over 60 students completed the survey Data Collection

  10. Used a spreadsheet to organize data in order to enter it into the VassarStats for analysis Ran 2 T-tests to check for statistically significant differences in either set of Independent Variable and Dependent Variable Data Analysis

  11. Participation vs. Perceived Change In Satisfaction • Yes Mean = 1.58 • No Mean = 2.91 • Yes S.D. = .66 • No S.D. = .83 • P Value = <.0001

  12. Participation vs. G.P.A. • The mean G.P.A. for both students who participated and didn’t participate in extra curricular activities was 3.00 – 3.49

  13. A student who participates in intramural sports will have a better feeling of satisfaction • Hypothesis was correct. • There was a statistical significance to support that a student who participates in IM sports/extracurricular activities will have a better feeling of satisfaction Conclusion For Hypothesis #1

  14. There is a relationship between G.P.A. and participation in extracurricular activities • Hypothesis was incorrect • We found that even though participating in I.M sports/extracurricular activites may give students a better feeling of satisfaction, there is no direct statistical relationship within our study Conclusion For Hypothesis #2

  15. Add more sports to the I.M. Program Make some type of relationship between sports and academics Future Plans
