Captain’s Responsibilities • Proper sign-in with intramural official • 15-20 minutes before game time • WU ID card: must have decal, photo, name and WUID visible • ALL PLAYERS MUST BRING WU-ID TO CHECK IN – ABSOLUTELY NO EXCEPTIONS!! • Assist intramural staff with potential situations • Check email for League/Playoff Updates • Check IMLeagues.com for team schedule
Eligibility • All officially enrolled students, faculty and staff, are eligible to participate • Players may participate on ONE co-ed team while participating on ONE men’s or women’s team (Fraternity/Sorority teams are considered a men’s/women’s team) • No Olympic or former professional athletes that have competed in their respect sport within the past 5 years • NCAA varsity athletes are ineligible to compete in their sport or associated sports for an entire calendar year from the conclusion of that particular sports season • Rosters are Limited to 2 former varsity athletes going back 3 years (2012, 2011, 2010)
Season • 4 teams per division • New This Year: CoRec A and B Leagues • 3 Week Regular Season, 1.5 Week Playoff • At least 1 game per week • All games will be played in Sander Sikes Gym • Season Begins Tuesday March 25th
Proper Attire • NO JEWELRY!! • No hard casts • Proper shoes are required • Only sneakers • Athletic Attire Required(no khaki shorts/jeans) • Supervisors will have final say
Protests • Only protests based on questions of player eligibility and rule interpretation will be accepted • No protests on judgment calls • Must be done at the time of incident
Officials • Remember they are students too – they don’t deserve to be abused! • Can’t argue judgment calls • Respect the officials. Without them, we wouldn’t be playing. • Interested in officiating? Stay after this meeting!
Ejections • Ejections may occur before, during or after any contest • Ejections may be made by any Intramural staff member • Any ejected player must leave the playing area and facility immediately • It is YOUR responsibility to assist the Intramural staff in retrieving the ejected player’s identification • All ejected players must schedule an appointment to meet with Stephen Crespi before they can participate in ANY future intramural contests; suspensions will prohibit you from participating in all intramurals until reinstatement.
Forfeits and Defaults • Forfeits • GAME TIME IS FORFEIT TIME • Serves as a loss on the record • Will be given a 0 sportsmanship rating • Winning team will receive a 5 • Defaults • Email s.crespi@wingate.eduby noon on the day of your game • Serves as a loss on the record • Will be given a 5 sportsmanship rating • Will not be dropped from the league • Due to 3 week season structure, any team with 2+ defaults/forfeits will not be eligible for playoffs
Sportsmanship • Sportsmanship points are based on your team’s conduct during each contest • 1-5 Rating system per game • Teams must have an average of 3 points to be eligible for playoffs • Ejections are maximum of a 1
Playoffs • All teams receiving an average of 3 sportsmanship points, no more than 1 forfeit, and no more than two defaults are eligible for playoffs • If a team drops below a 3 during the playoffs then they will be eliminated from the tournament • NO players can be added to a roster once the playoffs begin!!!! • Teams may submit playoff availability by Friday April 4 • Playoffs may begin week of April 14
Volleyball Rules • Volleyball rules are posted on IMLeagues.com • National Federation High School Rules Book (NFHS) will govern all play not covered in Intramural rules • Supervisors will have final say on rule/judgement clarifications while on the court
Players and Attire • Teams consist of 6 players • Must have a minimum of 3 players to start and on the court to play • Teams are not required to wear the same color shirts/jerseys • Athletic Attire and Sneakers/Tennis Shoes Only • No foot glove shoes • No jewelry, hard casts
Volleyball Rules • The Match • 2 out of 3 games • All games are played to 25 winning by 2 pts with a cap at 30 (Rally Scoring) • One 1-minute time-out is allowed during each game • Teams change sides of the court after each game and after 13 pts in the 3rd game • GAME TIME IS FORFEIT TIME
Volleyball Rules • Substitutions • May only be made during a dead ball • Must take the position of the player they are replacing • Also must remain in the game for a full rotation • Teams must designate either a rotation or player for player substitution method before each individual game • Ball in play, dead ball, out of bounds • Ball must be clearly hit • Contact with ball must be brief and instantaneous • Ball may be legally played with any part of body • Ball may be volleyed only 3 times
Volleyball Rules • Ball in play, dead ball, out of bounds • Back line player cannot spike the ball in front of the attack line • Outside boundary lines are considered part of the playing court • Ball is out of bounds when it touches anything outside the playing court • If the ball touches anything directly above the playing court and stays on your side, it is still considered in bounds. But if it goes to the opposing side than it is out of bounds
Volleyball Rules • Ball in play, dead ball, out of bounds • Player can not touch the net or any supports while ball is in play • When returning the ball, player may follow through over the net, providing they make contact with the ball on their side of the net • Players blocking the ball may reach across the but can’t make contact until the opponent has hit the ball • Only front line players may block • Can’t block/attack (leaving the ground to spike the ball over the net) a serve • Blocking the ball does not count as a hit
Volleyball Rules • Serving • First server in any game is the player in the right-back position • Each time a team has a new service, the team must rotate one position in a clockwise direction • Player can’t serve out of turn • Server may serve anywhere along the back line • Body can’t touch the playing area or the serving line until contact is made with the ball • Serve must go over the net and it may touch it
Volleyball Rules • Scoring Points • Rally scoring • Player Conduct • Players shall conduct themselves in a sportsmanlike manner and shall not make remarks, shout, stamp feet, or create other disturbances towards officials or other players
Volleyball Rules • CoRec Stipulations • 6 on 6 consisting AT ALL TIMES of 3 guys/ 3 girls • If a team has 5: 3 guys/2 girls or 2 guys/3 girls • If a team has 4: must play with 2 guys/2 girls • Teams must have at least 3 players to start the game • 2 girls or 1 guy or 1 girl or 2 guys • Males and females must alternate serving • If the ball is hit more than once on one side of the net, a male and a female must make contact with the ball in no particular order
