The African Elephant • Elephants, are the largest land mammals in the whole world. Elephants weigh up to 10,000 pounds, and grow up to 12 feet. Their thick grey skin protects them from any predator bites. Their trunk, helps them pick up food or water, and then put it in their mouths. The elephant lives in Savannas because there are plants and trees there, also lakes and rivers. http://www.blueplanetbiomes.org/african_savanna_animal_page.html http://www.oaklandzoo.org/atoz/azeleph.html
The Zebra • The Zebra is the “Horse” of the Savanna. The Zebra looks like a “Horse” but is smaller. The Zebra can weigh up to 500 or 600 pounds. It has short legs, and a big head. The Zebra has black and white stripes. Every single Zebra has it’s different stripes. Like the Elephant, Zebras live in Savannas because of the nature there. http://www.blueplanetbiomes.org/african_savanna_animal_page.html http://www.oaklandzoo.org/atoz/azebra.html

The Senegal Gum Acacia • The Senegal Gum Acacia is a small sized thorn tree. Though it can grow up to 30 meters. The Acacia gives shade and shelter to the animals that live in the Savanna. http://www.winrock.org/forestry/factpub/FACTSH/A_senegal.html http://www.hort.purdue.edu/newcrop/duke_energy/Acacia_senegal. html http://www.blueplanetbiomes.org/african_savanna_plant_page.htm
Elephant Grass • Elephant Grass grows up to 10 feet. The Grass grows in Savannas near lakes and rivers where the soil is rich. Farmers bring back huge stacks of Elephant Grass back home so that they can feed it to their farm animals. http://www.hort.purdue.edu/newcrop/nexus/Pennisetum_purpureum_ nex.html http://www.hort.purdue.edu/newcrop/duke_energy/Pennisetum_ purpureum.html

Abiotic Factors • The Savanna’s latitude 15 degrees North, and 30 degrees South. Longitude: 15 degrees W, and 40 degrees West. • The Rainfall is about the same as Wisconsin. During the rainy seasons, they get 15 to 25 inches of rain. • This all affects animals and plants that live there because some of them need a sunny weather, and other animals need it to kind of be cool. Plants need the rain to get watered. http://mercury.bio.uaf.edu/courses/biol105/Lectures/Section1/photos/50-25bx-Savanna.jpg http://www.blueplanetbiomes.org/african_savanna.htm
Medicinal Plants Baobab Tree Aloe Polyphylla Warburgia Salutarus African Tulip Tree These plants are used for making medicine to heal ill people in the world. Science had to test this before they used it, and they had to find out ways to get the medicine out of the plant. And they made machines to help as well. http://www.planetpatrol.info/savannah.html
Human Activity • Humans are building many things in savannas, which is ok, but they are ruining the habitat of the animals by polluting, and harvesting every single plant there. Many animals are dyeing because of pollution, and because of the little food that is left. There are over 500 animals in the Savanna, and each one wants it’s own amount of food. The air that come out of the factories that are built there affect the temperature of the air, which means that some animals can die because of the bad temperature in the savanna. Many farmers take the plants to feed to THEIR animals, and leave none for the wild ones. http://www.planetpatrol.info/savannah.html
Human Activity • People take away some of the plants there so that they can make medicine out of them, and sell it. The people who do that don’t care about the animals, and that they have to have some food to survive. Most people only do that for their benefit, and so that they can get their money. They don’t realize they are destroying the savanna, and turning it into a dry place or a desert. http://www.planetpatrol.info/savannah.html
Use Of Natural Resources • This has affected the environment, money and people. People get the plant, or any other natural thing, and make something out of it, then sell it. That affects the money, in a good way, it makes it increase, but affects the environment, because the plants are being removed, and the wonderful Savanna is turning into a desert. It can affect people, because people make medicine out of plants, and that means the ill people drink that medicine and it affects them in a good way. http://www.planetpatrol.info/savannah.html
