Attendance • Absence Documents should be turned into Ms. Manuel in the Main Office within 3 days of the student’s return for the absence to be considered excused. • A Student who misses 10 days or more of class unexcused is in jeopardy of losing credit. • Parents will be contacted via by the school computer and telephone system every time the student misses a class. • PLAN AHEAD: If you know of dates you will be out, contact your teachers and Ms. Manuel about the dates you will be out of school. • AHS Phone Number: 863-965-6200

9. Attendance Appropriate Excused Absences & Documentation

10. attendance • Attendance is an important factor in a student’s success. The curriculum at AHS is rigorous; daily attendance is mandatory in order to meet teacher expectations. • 1. Instructional assignments missed due to a student’s absence from class must be made up in a timely fashion. • 2. It is the student’s responsibility to request work from the teacher on the first day back to class. • 3. The student must make up all assignments as determined by the teacher. A 60% passing grade must be made on each assignment to make up the absence(s). All absences will count toward loss of credit. • Failure to attend school will result in denial or loss of driver’s license from the State of Florida. • Please see your student handbook to review additional attendance guidelines.

22. Violations

23. All students must have sleeves on their shirts. This includes females as well as males. (Backless shirts are also not acceptable). • Pants must be worn around the waist and properly fitted. Skinny jeans are allowed only if they are not too tight and can be pulled up to the waist. • The hem of shorts, skirts and dresses shall be no shorter than knee length. • Any attire associated with gangs, tobacco, drugs, alcohol, violence or discrimination will not be acceptablewhile on campus. • Clothing not properly fastened or that has tears, rips, or holes are not acceptable. • Clothing or other garments traditionally designed as undergarments such as boxer shorts, bloomers, tights, hosiery and sleepwear are not allowed. • Overalls are not allowed. 24. Shorts that are considered spandex, traditional running shorts, see through shorts, short shorts, yoga pants, any pants deemed too tight, and any type of cutoffs are not allowed. • NO Flip-Flops of any type are allowed. Sandals may be worn if they cover the top of the foot, are NOT rubber soled and are not considered athletic slides. Sandals are different from flip-flops in that they are held securely to the foot by a forefoot cover over the top of the foot or have a heel strap. Leather flip-flops are not sandals and will not be allowed. The general rule of thumb is “If it makes a flip-flop sound when you walk, it is a flip-flop.” • Hats are not to be worn or brought onto campus. • Blankets are not allowed. • Clothing or jewelry that is indecent or a distraction is not allowed. This includes bandanas, grills and anything that is considered offensive or suggestive. AHS Dress Code

30. PDA (Public Display of Affection) • Inappropriate PDA is not allowed on AHS campus or school sponsored events. • Inappropriate PDA is defined as lewd or inappropriate affection – kissing, inappropriate touching, sitting in laps, etc… • Repeat offenders will result in a parent conference and/or other administrative actions. • Stairwells are off-limits in the morning.

31. Cafeteria Procedures • Upon Entering the cafeteria to pick up your meal, you must form a SINGLE line. • Do not cut into line or bunch up in groups. • Students must eat inside the cafeteria or on the patio. You must remain • at the cafeteria eating areas for the entire 20 minutes. • Students are expected to take all lunch trays and drink containers to the designated • area after eating, and leave no food or trash on the lunch table. • When an administrator is talking on the microphone, students must stop talking and • listen to the information being given. • Wait for the bell or an administrator to dismiss you from the cafeteria.

32. Cafeteria expectations • All students are to enter and exit the cafeteria in an orderly manner. • Food and drinks are to remain INSIDE of the cafeteria at all times. • All trays, garbage, etc… are to be removed from your table before you leave. Tables are to be left clean. • No food is to be thrown at any time in the cafeteria. (Failure to adhere to this expectation may result in an out of school suspension).

33. Campus Cleanliness • In an effort to keep our campus clean, it is important for students to put all trash in garbage containers provided throughout the campus. • Littering will not be tolerated. Violations will result in disciplinary consequences.

34. Student Parking Students are to park in the area designated for student parking. Parking permits will be sold in the main office. The cost of the parking permit is $20.00 and there are no refunds. Permits must be displayed at all times in the front windshield, legible to security.

35. Student Parking If you receive a PARKING TICKET, your name will be place on an obligation list until paid. Your vehicle is subject to being towed at your expense. Parking Privileges may be revoked for the following violations: Skipping class Skipping school Disrespect to staff Blasting loud music Assignment to an opportunity school

36. Cell Phones & Electronic Devices • Cell phones and other electronic devices are not allowed to be used except under the following guidelines: • Students may use their own electronic device when authorized by a teacher for the purpose of learning. • Students may use their own electronic devices during lunch, as long as it is done responsibly – no pictures; no video taping of others; to listen to music, must use one ear-bud; and all communication must be appropriate. Headphones are not allowed. • Electronic devices are not allowed to be used in the hallways or around campus during the school day at this time . We reserve the right to adjust this privilege for a school-wide incentive program.

37. Students who choose to bring wireless communication devices to school do so at their own risk. Cell phones and other wireless communication devices are small and easily lost. There is also a high incidences of theft of theses devises. The School Board of Polk County will not be responsible if these devices are lost or stolen.

38. Leaving Campus • Students will only be released to those persons listed on the emergency card. • All check-outs are done through the main office. • Proper ID is required at time of pick up.

39. Tardy Policy • If students are more than 10 minutes late, without a pass from the attendance office, a referral should be written for skipping. • If students are more than 30 minutes late, without a pass from the attendance office, the student should be marked absent rather than tardy, and a referral should be written for skipping. • If students are more than 30 minutes late, with a pass from the attendance office, the student should be marked absent rather than tardy.

40. Assembly & Pep Rally Procedures Dismissal to the assembly will be through the intercom. When in the auditorium, students should follow directives on where to be seated. When in the gym, students should sit in the designated area for their class. Listen for instructions.

41. Silent Lunch Students assigned to silent lunch must report to the Hound Pound during their lunch period. Hound Pound is located in room 103 across from the cafeteria. • Students who are assigned to silent lunch must be on time and sign in before the tardy bell rings. Do not be late. • Students will be given their choice of a peanut butter & jelly sandwich, ham & cheese sandwich, or turkey sandwich or a salad. • Students will receive bottled water or white milk, and the fruit of the day.

42. Silent Lunch • Students will remain in silent lunch for the duration of their lunch period. • Students will maintain a positive attitude and cooperate with school personnel while assigned to silent lunch. • Students will not be permitted to put their head down or sleep. • Students who fail to serve their assigned silent lunch detention will be assigned a four-hour Saturday Work Detail.

43. WORK DETAIL Work Details are part of the disciplinary procedures at AHS. Attendance at scheduled work details is mandatory. Work details will be scheduled on Saturdays from 8am to 12pm. If you have a legitimate reason for failing to attend work detail, it is your responsibility to bring a note from your parent on Monday or notify an administrator in advance. Failing to serve a Saturday work detail will result in a 3 day Out –of-School Suspension.

44. Students who are suspended from school are not allowed on School Board Property nor allowed to participate in any school activity. Polk County Youth Protection Ordinance 97-20 Section 4 states if a minor has been suspended or expelled from school he/she shall not remain in a public place, in an establishment, or within 1000 feet of a school between 8am and 3pm on school days.

45. Student movement/supervision on campus • Students are to go directly to the courtyard when they arrive on campus between 6:30 a.m. and 6:52 a.m. Students must check in at the Front Office when arriving after 7:15 a.m. Students are expected to exit campus by 2:30 p.m. unless supervised by a staff member. Campus student supervision is from 6:30 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. unless supervised by an extra-curricular sponsor/coach. • Supervision for early release days is from 6:30 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. unless supervised by an extra-curricular sponsor/coach. • Students are not allowed passes in the first 10 minutes of class and the last 10 minutes of class.

46. Bus Riders & Bus behavior If you do not ride a bus, you SHOULD NOTbe at the bus ramp. When you are dismissed at the end of the day please go immediately to your designated area for pick-up. All school rules, regulations, and the Code of Conduct apply to all transportation provided by the School Board. These rules also apply at the school board approved neighborhood bus stop.
