Fats • Two types: • Good (unsaturated) • Provides energy • Nuts, olive oil, etc… • Bad (saturated) • Makes you gain weight • Causes heart disease and weight problems • Fast & processed foods, baked goods, etc… • Stored when needed
Protein • Types: • 50,000 different types • Forms our organs, nerves, and muscles • Assembles hormones • Eat one gram per kilogram of weight • Good sources: • Beef, lamb, venison, buffalo, pork, etc…
Vitamins • 5 types: • Vitamin A, B, C, D, and K • Found in: fruits, veggies, dairy, and meat • Without them some body processes couldn’t happen • Some stored in body • Some cannot be held in the body • Are organic molecules • Needed to maintain growth and activity
Minerals • 7 types: • Calcium, iron, chromium, copper, iodine, selenium, zinc • Boost immune system • Helps cells, and organs do their jobs • Makes body work properly • Inorganic elements come from soil and water • Support growth and development
