Faculty Senate Report January 24, 2013 • IFC • IFC meeting on January 23rd • Replacement to FAS is being considered; software available in market being looked at. Focus groups on different campuses provided inputs. • New position: UMSystem Vice President for Academic Affairs, Research and Economic Development. • Bondissue seems to have good support inJefferson City. • Strategic Planning: Systemtrying come up with 3 to 5 metrics for new funding from a list of 9.

Strategic Planning • January 16, 2013 - Donors Targeted Brainstorming Ideation Session • January 31, 2013 – Undergraduate Targeted Brainstorming Ideation Session • January 31, 2013 – Graduate Distance On-Line Students Targeted Brainstorming Ideation Session • February 1, 2013 – Employer Targeted Brainstorming Ideation Session • February 7, 2013 – Research-Based Graduate Students Targeted Brainstorming Ideation Session • February 7, 2013 – Research Investors Targeted Brainstorming Ideation Session • February 1 – 15 will hold 7 sessions with degree awarding academic department groupings (working on scheduling those) • Will schedule an Undergraduate Targeted Brainstorming Ideation Session in the evening • February 26 the Strategic Planning Coalition will hold a Prioritization Session • March 12 Innosight Training Date • June 1 is targeted completion date

Office of International Affairs • Spring semester began January 22ndwith orientation, placement testing and registration. • English Language Proficiency testing for new students was conducted January 15th and results and recommendations were forwarded to campus administrators on January 18th.

Office of International Affairs • 11 new sponsored students from Thailand arrived January 12th. We hosted 4 representatives from the Royal Thai Embassy who traveled with the arriving students. • 4 new Brazil Scientific Mobility Program (BSMP) students arrived this week. Missouri S&T will host a total of 15 BSMP students for SP2013.

Enrollment Management • Spring 2013 enrollment first day of classes was up 2.7% (6,111) on-campus and 12.3% (742) off-campus. Total enrollment is up 3.6% (6,853). • First freshman PRO registration day for Fall 2013 is February 23.

Enrollment Management • Bridgette Betz is the new Director of Student Financial Assistance, replacing Lynn Stichnote. • $28.8 M of total financial aid disbursed for Spring 2013, an increase of 11.2% from last year.

Office of Sponsored Programs FY13 activities through the end of December and a year-over-year comparison are as follows: Proposals awarded in total dollars: $39.8M (up 239.4%) Number of proposals awarded and amendments: 135 (down 3.6%) Proposals submitted in total dollars: $78.1M (up 8.1%) Number of proposals submitted: 249 (up 4.6%) Research expenditures: $19.9M (down 9.1%) F&A recovered: $3.3M (down 8.4%) Number of active awards: 562 (down 4.3%)

Academic Forgiveness Policy • The Missouri University of Science and Technology has an academic forgiveness policy to enable those students who did not perform adequately in their undergraduate enrollment at Missouri S&T to be given a second chance to pursue their undergraduate academic goals. Students returning to Missouri S&T to pursue an undergraduate degree after an extended absence may request permission to removeone academic term from future degree and GPA considerations. Academic forgiveness is a policy of Missouri University of Science and Technology and as such may not be recognized by outside institutions or agencies. • *Submitted 2/17/11 by Registrar’s Office, Revised 5/12/12 by Retention CommRevised 1/16/13 by AF&S committee. • Eligibility • To be eligible for academic forgiveness consideration, students must meet these requirements: • Students must have not been enrolled as degree-seeking at Missouri University of Science and Technology or any other University of Missouri System campus for four or more consecutive years. • Students must not have graduated from Missouri University of Science and Technology. • Students must be admitted as degree-seeking and have earned a minimum of 12.0 credits hours with at least a 2.5 GPA of record for those hours at Missouri University of Science and Technology within the past 12 months.

Academic Forgiveness Policy • Conditions • Academic forgiveness is based on the following conditions: • All courses and credits taken during the chosen term will be removed from consideration for GPA and degree requirements. Students may not combine individual courses from multiple terms to compose the semester dropped. • All courses and grades for the chosen term will remain on the student’s academic record with a notation showing that those hours and grades will not count toward cumulative hours, nor GPA, nor can they be used to fulfill any degree requirements. • Forgiveness may be applied only to an academic term completed prior to the student’s extended absence. • Students may only be granted academic forgiveness once. • Degree requirements met during the dropped term must be repeated. • To be eligible for a degree, students must complete a minimum of 24 credits at Missouri University of Science and Technology after readmission. • Academic forgiveness only applies to Missouri University of Science and Technology undergraduate courses and is not applicable to transfer work or graduate work. • Only students who are readmitted to a degree program at the undergraduate level at Missouri University of Science and Technology are eligible to apply for forgiveness. • Academic Forgiveness must be approved by the primary academic department on a case-by-case basis.

Academic Forgiveness Policy • Procedures • Students should discuss their desire to pursue academic forgiveness with an academic advisor in the primary department to which they have been admitted. • Students should submit an Application for Academic Forgiveness form to the Registrar’s Office. • For the term approved for academic forgiveness, a note will appear on the transcript.

Therefore we recommend that the university adopt a perspective of learning from problems rather than assigning blame. We also recommend that individuals with responsibilities for the protection of sensitive data seek the involvement of professionals to ensure that safety is provided. ITCC Deliberations, Resolutions • FS 6/17/10 (approved w minor changes FS 9/16/10) The ITCC Committee submitted a report regarding: 1) The process for the University to gain access to information on University-owned computers that are possessed by faculty (Authorized Access Policy) and 2) Concerns about the unique technological needs of the S&T campus being met by the shared services initiative.
