The aims of the MYP projects are to encourage and enable students to: • participate in a sustained, self-directed inquiry within a global context • generate creative new insights and develop deeper understandings through in-depth investigation • demonstrate the skills, attitudes and knowledge required to complete a project over an extended period of time • communicate effectively in a variety of situations • demonstrate responsible action through, or as a result of, learning • appreciate the process of learning and take pride in their accomplishments
The aims of the MYP projects are to encourage and enable students to: Learning Intentions We are learning how to begin the Personal Project Process Success Criteria We'll know we're successful when we can... • select and appropriate topic and goal • connect the topic and goal to a logical global context • determine who would be the most effective supervisor & ask him/her • begin the process journal and creation of our design specification for our PP
Personal project objectives Objective A: Investigating • Define a clear goal and global context for the project, based on personal interests • Identify prior learning and subject-specific knowledge relevant to the project • Demonstrate research skills Make a list of things you’re interested in. What do you find yourself looking up? Daydreaming about? Watching YouTube videos on?
Personal project objectives Objective B: Planning • Develop criteria for the product/outcome • Plan and record the development process of the project • Demonstrate self-management skills • Connections to the Shark Tank: • Design specifications • Process Journal • Setting Goals & Achieving Balance

Personal project objectives Objective D: Reflecting • Evaluate the quality of the product/outcome against their criteria • Reflect on how completing the project has extended their knowledge and understanding of the topic and the global context • Reflect on their development as IB learners through the project
Notice that the names of the criteria have changed from this year!
The supervisors’ responsibilities are to: • ensure the chosen MYP project topic satisfies appropriate legal and ethical standards with regard to health and safety, confidentiality, human rights, animal welfare and environmental issues • provide guidance to students in the process and completion of the project • confirm the authenticity of the work submitted • assess the MYP project using the criteria in this guide • participate in the standardization of assessment process established by the school • provide personal project grades to the MYP Coordinator to enter in IBIS (from 2016).
Students should receive information and guidance that includes: • guidelines about the MYP project • a timetable with deadlines • the assessment criteria for the project • advice on how to keep and use a process journal • the importance of personal analysis and reflection • formative feedback • requirements for academic honesty.
Students are expected to… • spend approximately 25 hours on their personal project. • This time includes: • meeting with supervisors • independent learning through research, planning, development and completion of the project • reporting of the project. If you start in June… mos. = 40 min /week (minimum)
These student-planned learning activities include: • deciding what they want to learn about, identifying what they already know, and discovering what they will need to know to complete the project • creating proposals or criteria for their project, planning their time and materials, and recording developments of the project • making decisions, developing understandings and solving problems, communicating with their supervisor and others, and creating a product or developing an outcome • evaluating the product/outcome and reflecting on their project and their learning.
