Curriculum • Common Core Common core was created by teachers, parents, education experts, and others from across the country, the standards provide clear, consistent expectations for what students should be learning at each grade in order to be prepared for college and career.
Curriculum • Common Core “Common Core” refers to content standards that serve as the curriculum in math, language arts, and in literacy in science, social studies, and technical education. In Georgia, these are called the Common Core Georgia Performance Standards (CCGPS). These standards have been developed by content experts and educators.

Assessments • Promotion and graduation requirements • To earn promotion to the next grade level, a child enrolled in List Grade grademust successfully master the current grade-level standards in order to earn promotion to the next grade level. • To earn promotion to in 3rd Grade, the state requires that Georgia students in 3rdGradepass the Reading subtest of the CRCT to earn promotion. In addition, Sumter County students must successfully master the current grade-level assessment in order to earn promotion to the next grade level. • To earn promotion to 4thgrade, Sumter County 4thgraders must earn a passing score on each of the following CRCT subtests: Reading and Mathematics subtests of the CRCT to earn promotion. • To earn promotion to 6th grade, the state requires that Georgia 5th graders pass the Reading and Mathematics subtests of the CRCT to earn promotion.
