My Journey to learning Something New By: Rick Carvalho
What Could I learn that would be useful to our Students and Department
At one of our departmental meetings Social Media was discussed After speaking with my coordinator, he provided with contact information I called Nathan and made an appointment, and I was off…..
Nathan also gave me some tip on how to manage our new Social mediapage with my smart phone I download an app called pages Nathan also suggested I use piping trade photos from the RRC flickr account
I asked other staff for suggestions on a temporary photo for our new page Our shop manager was already working with RRC marking to create a Piping Trades Logo and I included our first post
I was very eager to get started with promoting our New Social Mediapage sent out an all staff email and grouped text the link to my students
Little did I know this was only the beginning of my learning journey Another Instructor helped with developing an QRcode to promote our new Facebook page and we tape posters all over J building
thought I would look for some pictures from the RRC Flickr page Only to discover I needed to sign up for Flickr With Yahoo
After some login issues I needed a Break !
Once in Flickr I typed Red River College in the search box and found that RRC has 10,579 photos posted and I went for another break !!!!
Now Reality set in, not only would I be learning how to manage a Social media page, I would also need to learn how to use Flickr After narrowing down the search to 155 sets of photo I found NO pictures of students from Piping Trades So I made an attempt to Photoshop something
As I was learning all this new technology. I discovered something
Not only was I learning about managing a Social media page I was learning about different kinds of social media
as well, I was learning to: • Use my iPad to send pictures to my email • Use my iPhone to manage the facebook page • Use Microsoft paint to copy, crop and paste photos • add sounds and gif files to make this Fantastic PowerPoint
Added posts to keep the social media page current and interesting The social media page is an ongoing project That will last much longer than 6 hours
