  9. Chapter 7 – Current EA Modelling Find all these documentation first, which describes the current business strategic and operating models If missing develop it.

  10. Chapter 7 – Current EA Modelling EA documentation (artefacts) describing the organisation’s CURRENT goals & initiatives are : Strategic Plan/s SWOT Analysis Current operating Scenario & operating model specs Current Balanced Scorecard specs

  11. Chapter 7 – Current EA Modelling • EA documentation (artefacts) describing the organisation’s CURRENT (business) products & services are the: • Business Plans • Business process models produced by using techniques to represent different perspectives of process modelling like: • Integration Definition for Function (IDEF) • Swim Lane diagrams • Process flow diagrams, • USE case diagrams • etc • Business project management plans (ie project in the IT Capital Planning Portfolios) • Investment business case reports for each IT projects in portfolios

  12. Chapter 7 – Current EA Modelling • EA documentation (artefacts) describing the organisation’s CURRENT data & Information models: • Knowledge management plan • Various data models eg • Information exchange matrix • Object state transition diagram • Object event sequence diagram • Logical & physical E-R models • Activity/entity (CRUD) matrix • Data Dictionary & thesaurus • Ontology models

  13. Chapter 7 – Current EA Modelling EA documentation (artefacts) describing the organisation’s various CURRENT systems specification eg System interface diagrams System comms diagrams Systems data flow diagrams System operation matrix System data exchange matrix System performance matrix System evaluation diagram Web application diagram Other software system modelling diagrams and documentation types

  14. Chapter 7 – Current EA Modelling EA documentation (artefacts) describing the organisation’s CURRENT network design specs eg: Network connectivity diagrams Network inventory Capital inventory list Building network topology blueprints Network Centre diagram Cable plant diagram Rack elevation diagram Etc.

  15. Case Study Scene 4 Document Current EA artefacts • Artefact categories per Line of Business, depicting current operations • Strategic goals & initiatives • Business services • Information flows and data elements • System & support services • Network infrastructure Exists in many forms & formats: Reports, policy memos, manuals, spreadsheets, Powerpoint slides, diagrams, videos and other multimedia

  17. Chapter 8 – Future EA Modelling Possible Future EA Models Identify Current EA Baseline Model Diagram Source: http://scenarios2strategy.com/docs/planning.html

  18. Case Study Scene 4 • Business scenario planning with Jim & Kate & their staff • For each scenario, identify: • Opportunities & Threats assumptions • Business planning directions • Decide which scenario is most likely • Develop EA artefacts for selected future scenario • 3. Develop change management plan – current EA to selected future EA.

  19. Questions • Find a public or private sector enterprises and identify the following current EA components/artifacts at each level of the EA³ Cube Framework: • Identify current strategic goals, initiatives, and outcome measures. • Identify current LOBs, business services, and associated activity/flow diagrams. • Identify current information flows and data documentation in each LOB. • Identify the current IT systems and applications that support information flows for each LOB. • Identify the current IT infrastructure and networks that host IT systems and applications.

  20. Case Study: Victorian Local Government Ministry • As from 1 April 2014, all 79 Councils in Victoria will adopt a new Local Government Performance Reporting Framework (LGPRF) in their operations. • For the last two years, all Councils have been involved in the development and pilot testing of this LGPRF. They are now at the stage of implementing this LGPRF into their operations. • You have been commissioned to develop the LG Ministry's EA artefacts for this LGPRF initiative. As one of the first steps, you will need to: • Identify its current strategic goals, initiatives, and outcome measures • Identify current LOBs, business services, and associated activity/flow diagrams. • Identify current information flows and data documentation in each LOB. • Identify the current IT systems and applications that support information flows for each LOB. • Identify the current IT infrastructure and networks that host IT systems and applications.

  21. Reference Resources for Case Study #2 Answers Development Draft LGPRF & Indicators Working Paper (May 2013) The system of local government Guide to Local Government LGPRF – Indicator Workbook Version 3.1 MAV IT Strategy for Local Government 75 Victorian Councils choose Crisisworks Monash City Council Automates their Contract Management Process with Open Windows CONTRACTS Local Government Performance Reporting

  22. Chapter 7 – Current EA Modelling The Draft LGPRF & Indicators Working Paper (May 2013) contain overview information about the current strategy direction, which should enable you to identify the strategic objective/s and benefit-outcomes, and the overall strategic approach. EA documentation (artefacts) describing the organisation’s CURRENT goals & initiatives are : Strategic Plan/s SWOT Analysis Current operating Scenario & operating model specs Current Balanced Scorecard specs

  23. Chapter 7 – Current EA Modelling • The resources: • The system of local government gives insights about the structure of LG in Victoria • Guide to Local Government gives insights about the functions of each council • Council Plan development Guidelines give insights about a Council’s business plan • EA documentation (artefacts) describing the organisation’s CURRENT (business) products & services are the: • Business Plans • Business process models produced by using techniques to represent different perspectives of process modelling like: • Integration Definition for Function (IDEF) • Swim Lane diagrams • Process flow diagrams, • USE case diagrams • etc • Business project management plans (ie project in the IT Capital Planning Portfolios) • Investment business case reports for each IT projects in portfolios

  24. Chapter 7 – Current EA Modelling • EA documentation (artefacts) describing the organisation’s CURRENT data & Information models: • Knowledge management plan • Various data models eg • Information exchange matrix • Object state transition diagram • Object event sequence diagram • Logical & physical E-R models • Activity/entity (CRUD) matrix • Data Dictionary & thesaurus • Ontology models

  25. Chapter 7 – Current EA Modelling EA documentation (artefacts) describing the organisation’s various CURRENT systems specification eg System interface diagrams System comms diagrams Systems data flow diagrams System operation matrix System data exchange matrix System performance matrix System evaluation diagram Web application diagram Other software system modelling diagrams and documentation types

  26. Chapter 7 – Current EA Modelling EA documentation (artefacts) describing the organisation’s CURRENT network design specs eg: Network connectivity diagrams Network inventory Capital inventory list Building network topology blueprints Network Centre diagram Cable plant diagram Rack elevation diagram Etc.

  27. Conclusion You can summarize your analysis findings into a matrix list of EA artefacts needed for supporting the LG Ministry to understand and acquire the full service provisioning capacities in improving its current deployment of its LGPRF strategy in all 79 Victorian Councils. This matrix would help identify scope the EA work require. Discuss how this matrix looks like.
