Purpose of Album • This photo album is an overview of our unit on Cardiovascular Endurance • This album has been put together so you can know in advance what you will learn and accomplish by the end of the unit
Diagnostic assessment Students will respond to the following questions in their journals:
Journal 1. What does it mean to be physically fit? 2. What is cardiovascular endurance? 3. How does cardiovascular endurance affect your overall heath? 4. What does it mean to be in a healthy cardiovascular fitness zone? 5. Do you think that you are below, above, or in a healthy cardiovascular fitness zone? Why do you choose that zone? 6. Are you involved in any sports or activities within your community or school? List and explain. 7. Are your parents/guardians involved in any type of physical activities? List and explain.
Diagnostic Assessment #2 Students will perform the pre-mile run and record their times on a fitness gram worksheet. On the worksheet there is a box for students to record their pre mile run times, fall mile run goal, fall mile run time, spring mile run goal, and spring mile run time.
Formative assessment • Students will walk/run four laps around the track while trying to remain in their healthy heart rate zone. (use heart rate zone calculation from prior lesson) • Then respond to the following exit slip questions:
Exit Slip/Self Assessment • Where you able to stay in your heart rate zone for all four laps? Why do you think? How can you improve? 2. What is the importance of remaining in your individual healthy heart rate zone?

Performance Assessment Imagine that your town is hosting a one-mile run race for a charity in the spring. You plan on participating in this race but need to improve your cardiovascular endurance levels in order to achieve your goal time. Use your fitness gram data sheet, to set a goal time for the mile run. Using your fitness gram data and goal time, develop your own 10-week individual fitness plan. Explain how your choices of exercise will improve your cardiovascular endurance levels and help you achieve your goal time.
Rubric Review • Before handing in this assignment, students will peer review each others work based on the rubric
Fitness Plan Self Assessment • During the 5th week of implementing the fitness plan. Students will self-assess the effectiveness of their plans and make any necessary changes.
