Words of the Wiser Insights • Gives us insight into the conflict and possible resolution • Gives us a clue towards what the author wants the character to do – and thus, we can get some hints about the theme
Question to Ask • What has the character learned and how will this advice affect the character in the future?
Example • Where do we see Words of the Wiser in “A&P”? • What has Sammy learned and how will this advice affect Sammy in the future?
Memory Moment Definition • A point in the text when the writer interrupts what’s happening in the story to show the us the main character as he/she remembers something important. • Clues: “I remembered,” “The memory came back to me,” “My dad liked to tell the story about…,” “This picture always reminded me of….”
