STOP!Notice and Note • When you are reading and a character (who is probably older and a lot wiser) takes the main character aside and gives serious advice. • These are important hints of theme!
EXAMPLE: (Charlie Swan – Bella’s father) “You didn’t do anything. That’s the problem. You never do anything.”
ST OP!Notice and Note • THEN WHAT? • After you note Words of the Wiser, ask yourself the following question: What’s the lesson, and how might it affect the character?
STOP!Notice and Note The answers to that question will help to indicate an important theme in the story.
