Introduction - • Deforestation actually means, cutting down of forests on a large scale, mostly for human needs such as- for furniture, infrastructures , industrialization, agricultural purposes etc. • One of the major reason for deforestation is increasing population.
This presentation includes- • Causes of deforestation • Preventive measures for deforestation • Effects of Deforestation • Difference between this period and ancient period in terms of deforestation
Depletion of forests- • Deforestation actually means, depletion of forests on a large scale, mostly for human needs such as- for furniture, infrastructures , industrialization, agricultural purposes, paper making, stationary goods, sports goods. • INDUSTRILIZATION- Forests are cleared down for making factory goods like-medicines, fuel, furniture etc.
Causes of Deforestation- • Increase in population • Industrialization • Paper making • Roads and Railways • Infrastructures • Globalization • For stationary goods • Medicines
INCREASE IN POPULATION- As the population is increasing day by day the needs of human beings are also increasing for shelters, agricultural activities, furniture goods, infrastructures and for land. • INDUSTRIALIZATION- Forests are cleared down for making paper goods and medicinal products. Sports goods include cricket bats ,baseball bats, hockey sticks.
PAPER MAKING- For making one paper a lot of wood is used. For making most of the goods like-notebooks, books, cardboards and sketch books . • ROADWAYS AND RAILWAYS- In India network of roads and railways is becoming more denser so, for this purpose deforestation is increasing day by day.
INFRASTRUCTURES- Country’s economy is increasing rapidly so, for making various infrastructures many trees are being cleared down . • GLOBALIZATION- Globalization includes the depletion of forests by various means such as by increased global warming ,greenhouse effect etc, which is occuring due presence of ChloroFluoro Carbons, Carbon Dioxide, Nitrogen Dioxide and other harmful green house gases.
STATIONARY GOODS- Trees are also cleared down for making stationary goods like pencils, geometry boxes, cardboards, charts, clipboards. • MEDICINES- Trees are also cleared down for making medicines. For example neem, chincona bark, sandalwood etc.
Today population is increasing day by day and on the other hand trees are also being cut on a large scale which also results in destruction of natural habitats, soil erosion, less seepage of water and reduced water retention of soil due to which water table is decreasing.
EFFECTS OF DEFORESTATION • Soil erosion • Loss of life • Destruction of natural habitats • Increase in floods • Making land Barren • Increase in respiratory diseases • Less rainfall
SOIL EROSION- As the forests are cleared down the soil gets eroded by the action of wind and water making land barren. • LOSS OF LIFE- The result of the deforestation is also effecting the life of flora and fauna. • DESTRUCTION OF NATURAL HABITATS- By the deforestation many natural habitats are also destroyed.
INCREASE IN FLOODS- Due to less numbers of trees holding capacity of soil decreases and leads to the formation of floods. • MAKING LAND BARREN- With decrease in no. of trees soil holding capacity of trees decreases which results in soil erosion which leads to majority in infertility of the soil.
INCREASE IN RESPIRATORY DISEASES- As there is decrease in no. of trees ,the quantity of oxygen is decreasing and carbon dioxide is increasing day by day which leads majority to some harmful respiratory diseases such as asthma, bronchits etc. • LESS RAINFALL_- Due to decrease In no. of trees the rate of transpiration decreases and does not allow water cycle to carry on.
PREVENTIVE MEASURES • AFFORESTATION • RECYCLING • REDUCING • REUSING • REPLENISING • USING CNG GAS • MAKING INFRASTRUCTURES Kutcha FLOOR
