  1. Integrated Research Programme (IRP) 4th EERA Annual Congress 9 April in Brussels Søren Knudsen Senior Executive Officer, DTU EERA JP Wind Secretary, IRPWIND WP Leader - WP2 Integrating Activities

  2. FP7 Energy IRP Call Supporting the integration of national research programmes at European scale Objective: to support the operation and delivery of research programmes that bring together and integrate on a European Scale programmes of a critical mass of research performers …. to advance the longer term research agenda of the SET-Plan Roadmaps Funding scheme: Collaborative Project and Coordination and Support Action (CP-CSA) IRPs started: Concentrated Solar Power, Photovoltaic, Smart Grids and Materials for Nuclear

  3. Aim of EERA and the IRPs • Foster better integration of European research activities in specific technology domains with the aim to accelerate the transition towards a low-carbon economy and maintain and increase European competitiveness • Benefit existing priority settings as well as to improve the quality and implementation of future priority settings through the coordinating effect on the research communities • Integratethe various capacities and resources in the joint research activities described in the IRP with ongoing European and National projects carried out by IRP partners and/or other EERA JP members

  4. Starting point • IRP is only one element in the EERA JP portfolio • National project funding the cornerstone • Several FP7-projects have provided essential glue to keep the R&D community together – project by project • EERA JPs point of departure were the ETPs • “Formalize” EERA approach to joint programming • Voluntary commitments based on existing activities • Deliverables and new activities • National coordination • Enable smart specialization by having a strong, integrated network proving a broad scientific context • Trust essential (transparency, clear rules, long term view)

  5. IRP – what’s it all about? Integration, coordination and alignment (as well as R&D!) • Strategic level • EII Teams, EERA Strategy and Road Map, influence national strategies • Operational level • Integration of existing and planned activities (EERA DoW, workshops, IRPWIND mobility scheme) • New joint activities (ERA NET+, Berlin model, ad hoc)

  6. RTD Project IRPWIND – the overview Nationally funded collaborative projects • Total EC budget: 9,8 M EUR (4Ys) • 6 M EUR for RTD • Offshore, Structural Reliability, Integration • 4 M EUR for Coordination and Support (CSA) • Management and Secretariat • National coordination • Transfer of knowledge • InCo • Research Infrastructure • Mobility

  7. CALL FOR APPLICATIONS FOR MOBILITY GRANTS Integrated Research Programme on Wind Energy, (IRPWIND) Call opens: 15th April 2014 Deadline: 31st May 2014 • EVALUATION PROCEDURE OF THE APPLICATIONS • Applications will be reviewed by a panel of 3 persons. • The panel will assess the applications and score according to a grading scale. • The applications will be ranked and the highest scores will be granted. • TIME SCHEDULE OF THE EVALUATION PROCEDURE • Application deadline: four weeks after the call; • Results of the evaluation: within two weeks from the application deadline. • Start of the grant: within two months from the approval. • APPLICATION TEMPLATE (MAX 3 Pages) • The application template must be downloaded from www.irpwind.eu\Mobility and submitted online. • Application must be supplemented by: • A Curriculum Vitae • A letter of interest from the host and the sending organization.

  8. Conclusions • ERA & SET Plan is the right strategic framework, but must continue to find new ways of implementation • How to document (measure) the EERA added value? • Products/innovations: technologies ultimately put on the market by industry/SMEs • Tangible effects: (publications, reports, journals etc.) acknowledged elsewhere • Intangible effects: coordination, building network, knowledge sharing, alignment, influencing strategies • Financing (and mind-sets) are project-based • Alliance approach appropriate if you want to achieve long term integration, but competition still a reality and important to ensure excellence www.irpwind.eu
