CURRENT ACTIVITIES Defining the brief Developing concepts Site investigations Archaelogical survey Ecological survey Tree surveys Utilities capacities
General Response Supportive of the village concept Supportive of the scale of development (including number of housing and mix of uses) Recognition that there is a need for this to happen for the benefit of the community
NEW VILLAGE Need for sheltered housing/older people – integrated in the community Need for houses for younger/single people Mix of housing types (sizes and styles) Mix of tenure (private, affordable, rent etc) Homes should be for local people Rented accommodation for seasonable staff 75 houses is too many – will upset the balance of the community – 40 would be better Village hall/cafe community facility where people can meet Cafe/bar/pub – reasonably prices New local shop Will new shop compete with existing business?
NEW VILLAGE • New homes should be spread out • Houses with gardens • Allow adequate parking spaces for visitors • Places for children to play • Not too many holiday homes • “I’d like contemporary architecture” • Must be a traditional village • Provision for sports facilities is important (gym, swimming pool football, tennis, all weather pitches – open in evenings)
FUNCTIONAL VILLAGE Speeding is an issue on the main road 70 new homes will generate a lot of traffic Put in a roundabout Please no roundabout Being able to walk to facilities is important Access for disabled Lack of information on public transport Link the local paths to the village and college Leave 40mph limit Change speed limit to 30mph How will we manage the big costs of infrastructure? Can you think about traffic lights?
BEAUTIFUL VILLAGE Aesthetics – how the village will look New buildings to integrate into landscape Allotments would be a good idea Central green space is important Incorporate bat roosts into buildings Don’t fell too many trees Central pond/park feature on peat area
SUSTAINABLE VILLAGE Energy efficiency of buildings is important New employment is needed Need to create a genuine mixed community Interest in embodied energy within materials Consider wind and wave power Cluster houses close together to implement CHP
