IGVCPower Team (BZZZZT!)Presentation October 17th Electrical Engineering Senior Projects 1 Nate – Jake – Tim
Concept Design 3 ft 2 ft
Areas of Improvement Over Previous Robot Electronics • Extend operating time • Provide constant reliable voltage to motors and other electronics • Condense power supply into a single unit • Add the E-Stop emergency stop safety feature
Expected Power RequirementsBased on Previous Robot Design • Power draw of ~ 960 W • 80 A current • 12 V motors • Like to know power draw of GPS, LIDAR, computer and wireless systems for possible integration of power supplies
Power Supply Options • Deep-cycle Battery • Optima Blue-top Battery SC31DM • 12 V battery, 12000 W max output, 60 lb, 2.5+ hour run time at 25 Amp Load • Gas generator (DC output) • Coleman Sport 1850 • 12 V DC, 180 W output, 70 lb weight • Honda EU1000i • 12 V DC, 100 W output, 30 lb weight
Step-up Converter • Analytic Systems 12V to 24V Converter – 45 Amp • Part number VTC6051224 • May increase run time by 100% • Increase performance and reliability of motors • Use as the power cutoff for E-Stop • Draws approximately 60 watts of power • Considering for experimentation
Fuel Cell Concept • 1.2 KW DC output – Useable Indoors and Outdoors • Weighs ~ 30-50 lbs • ~ 2.5 by 1.5 ft • $7,000 cost • A single $200 dollar tank could last 6 days of continuous use at 100% load • Recommended DC-DC converter to smooth output and prevent excess power draw from motors
Electric Motors • Currently unknown as to the specifications • Expecting about 350~420 W motor requirements • $44 for 24 volt 350 W • Mechanical Engineering team will help supply specs • 2~3 motors for 4 wheel design • 2 motors for 3 wheel design
E- Stop • To meet new requirements and to improve the safety of the vehicle an E-Stop will be hard-wired into the system • Accessible E-Stop Big Red Buttons located: • On the vehicle • On a remote control • May also steer the robot as an extra feature.
