CSU Application Process • Filing Period: Oct 1 – Nov 30 • Cost: $55 • Application: Student must submit a separate application for each campus • Online application: www.csumentor.edu • Notification: January – June • Transcripts: Are only required if a student receives a request from the college Admissions office

Tips for On-line Application • Initial sign-on as “new user” • Choose own user name & password • Select campus • READ the instructions • Help buttons available • Will highlight in red any info mission • SAVE Feature - info will be saved and automatically transferred to additional campuses - **SAT scores can be submitted directly to CSU mentor

UC Application Time Line Date/Deadline Task • October 1-31 UC Application Opens • November 1-30 Submit online UC Application • Late January Update December Test Results • March Notification of Admission • May 1 SIR (Statement of Intent to Register) Cost: $70 per campus Application: Only “1” application UC application online: wwwuniversityofcalifornia.edu/apply Transcripts: Are not required No Letter of Recommendation

Common Application 517 Members – Many private schools, including most of the top elite schools use this system as it just makes it easier for students to fill out and submit the application. • Create an account: www.commonapp.org • After completing the application, use the “My Colleges” section to ask your counselor and teachers to write letters of recommendation

  12. Teacher Recommendations • Choose a teacher that knows you BEST • Provide teacher with all forms (completed) • Provide teacher with “brag sheet” • Touch base with your teacher to see if he/she needs anymore information from you • Follow up with a THANK YOU NOTE

  13. Student Responsibility 1. Provide your counselor and teachers with addressed stamped envelope for every private college 2. Submitting his/her own COMPLETE APPLICATION (app, essays, fee, official SAT or ACT scores) 3.Pay Attention to Deadlines

TIMELINE • Get organized • Fill out the “Brag Sheet” • Complete College Folder and return it to Mrs. DiLullo • Start early on applications • Request letters of recommendation • Register for the SAT and ACT • 3 weeks for counselor to complete process and mail • December 6th is the LAST DAY to request a rec letter for an application whose deadline falls before January 1.
