Objectives of the Information Session At the end of this session participants will have a general overview: • whatis a senior promotion in the Faculty of Medicine • the criteriato receive a senior promotion • the steps and timeline to apply for a senior promotion
WHAT is a senior promotion? What is a Senior Promotion? Senior promotion refers to promotion to the academic ranks of Associate Professor and full Professor Academic promotion in the Faculty of Medicine recognizes the notable achievements of faculty members in their discipline and contributions to the University of Toronto.
WHAT is a senior promotion Promotion is not granted as a reward for long-term service, but rather to recognize those who have excelled in specific aspects of the academic mission. The successful candidate for promotion will be expected to have established a wide reputation in his or her field of interest, to be deeply engaged in scholarly work, and to show him or herself to be an effective teacher.
CRITERIA for a senior promotion According to the University of Toronto Policy and Procedures Governing Promotions, promotion is based on accomplishments in scholarship: • Research • Creative Professional Activity (CPA) • Teaching • Administrative service to the University
TIMELINE – IMPORTANT DATES Senior Promotion Timeline 2018-2019 IMPORTANT STEPS & DATES (handout) • Meet with your Chief/DFCM Division Director (before March 31) • Meet with Dr White (before March 31) • Attend the Workshops (Feb.13 & March 20) • Submit a pre-application (due April 9.2018) • Attend Workshop #3 – only for candidates “supported” (May 29)
