  1. Upcoming Events at Audubon January 20thNo School January 21st No School – In-service Day February 14th No school – In-service Day February 17th No School February 18th No School – In-service Day Marvelous Math Comparing Numbers: We played a very fun game called Number Top-it. This game made us compare numbers. Whoever had the larger number got to keep both their cards & their partners. Patterns: Twice this week we worked with pattern blocks. First, we created patterns using tracers. Later we continued a pattern that our partner made using pattern blocks. Addition: We got our first chance to use the addition symbol. As a class we worked on rolling numbers and adding chips to our mats. Interrupted Counts: Today we really worked our brains. We used all our knowledge of numbers & counting to begin counting from a given number. Exciting ELA Our big story for the start of the new year was The Mitten. With all of this exciting snow this year, this was a fun story to read. After reading this story we were able to retell the story as a class. You may have also seen all the animals and the mitten come home. If you have not done so already, ask us to retell the story to you now. We also created our own mittens and chose an animal that we would want to find in our mittens if they got lost in the snow. Once we read The Mitten, we then read about the three Kittens that lost their mittens. Since kittens & mittens were rhyming words, we looked for a partner that had a picture that rhymed with our own mitten. We ended our week learning about all the different types of weather. We read What will the Weather be like Today? We focused on noting details while reading. We then created a picture of our favorite type of weather & all the clothes we would need to wear for that type of weather. Reminders: We could really use more help with Kid Writing every Monday and Friday. Kid Writing is a very valuable time for students to learn and grow. It gives them a lot of practice with the foundational skills they need to read & write. The more help we have the more beneficial Kid Writing can be. You do not need to let me know if you can attend or not, just show up. The times are listed below. Monday: 9:55-10:15 Friday: 10:20-10:45
