Bell Work • Tell me what you know or remember about the following words: • Matter • Atom • Molecule • Compound • Energy • Types of chemical reactions • Periodic table of the elements • Chemistry
Presentation Projects • You are going to be working on a presentation. • Each group is going to be given a topic and the page numbers associated with the topic. • You will have the rest of the class block to organize a presentation on the important concepts of your topic. • Each group must submit a note sheet that I can copy for the class for your presentation. • Each member of your group must also provide 2 multiple choice questions for your topic based on the information presented. These go to me and the best will become test questions. • Each group should also have a short review activity for the class to complete after you finish presenting.
Monday • Each group will be given 10 minutes to present their information and complete their review activity. • Other members of the class will need to pay attention and take notes; this will be on the test. • After the presentation, we will address questions about your topic (I can help you here if needed).
Grade • You will be graded on: • Correctness of information (6 points) • Time requirement met (4 points) • Participation in the preparation and presentation of the information (4 points) • Respecting the other groups during their presentations. (4 points) • Turned in an electronic document that I can post on the webpage for others to review later and a note sheet for other groups (3 points). • Multiple Choice Questions (2 points) • Works Cited (2 points)
Topics • Matter and Energy (Page 26-27) • Elements and Atoms (Page 27-29; Table 2.1 included) • Atomic Structure (Page 29-30) • Identifying Elements (Page 30-32) • Molecules and Compounds (Page 32-33) • Bond Formation: Role of the Electron (Page 33-34) • Types of Chemical Bonds (page 34-37) • Patterns of Chemical Reactions (37-39)
