The Game (1/2) Directions: T=True/legal/Proper Procedure/Play continues F=False/Illegal/Incorrect Procedure/Play stops Team S = serving team Team R=receiving team T • Before the match a coin toss shall be conducted in the presence of the captains and a head coach from each team prior to timed warm-ups. • A forfeit shall be declared if a team has fewer than six players to start the match unless state association rules determine otherwise. • A forfeit shall be declared when a team fails to begin play when directed to do so by the official. • The R2 shall conduct the coin toss between the coaches and captains to determine which team shall have the first choice of serve/receive or playing court. • Artificial noise makers are permitted. The Court (2/3) Directions: T=True/legal/Proper Procedure/Play continues F=False/Illegal/Incorrect Procedure/Play stops Team S = serving team Team R=receiving team T • The ball is out of bounds if it travels from the area of the court over the team bench to a playable area. • The serving area may extend into the court to whatever distance necessary to provide the minimum 6-foot depth required and be so marked. • The ball remains in play when the LB’s foot touches the edge of the bleachers but she does not break the plane of the bleachers in her legal play on the ball. • A replay shall be declared when a served ball touches any part of a backboard which is hanging in a vertical position over a playable area. • The ball is out of bounds if it touches a non-player who is not interfering with the player’s effort to play the ball. The R1 requires S2 to remove the earrings and charges Team S with unnecessary delay/time-out. • A player attempts to enter the set wearing athletic tape over her pierced earrings. • A player may not enter the set wearing a uniform with the number 4” in height and centered 1” below the neckline. The Team: Composition and Positions(4/4) Directions: T=True/legal/Proper Procedure/Play continues F=False/Illegal/Incorrect Procedure/Play stops Team S = serving team Team R=receiving team • Illegal alignment occurs when, at the moment of serve while stacking to the left, the RB is nearer the center line than the RF. • It is a foul when a group of two or more of Team S’s team mates stand close together, blocking the view of the receiving team, and the ball with a low trajectory is served directly over them. • When an improper server is discovered prior to the contact of the first serve by the opposing team, all points earned by the improper server shall be canceled. • It is an illegal alignment if at the time of serve, the LF player’s left foot is on, but not beyond, the left sideline. • It is a player position foul if RF and CB are touching the court equal distance from the center line. R1 may enter the set after Team R is penalized with a point. • A point/loss of rally is awarded to the opponent when a team changes the lineup before the submission deadline. • An accurate roster shall be submitted to the scorer 10 minutes prior to the end of timed pre-match warm-up. The Serve (1/4) • Directions: T=True/legal/Proper Procedure/Play continues • F=False/Illegal/Incorrect Procedure/Play stops • Team S = serving team • Team R=receiving team F • A loss of rally is declared when the server, while contacting the ball, steps on but not over the line that marks the width of the service area. • A loss of rally is declared when the server releases the ball for service for the first time and catches it. • A loss of rally is awarded if a served ball contacts an overhead obstruction over the court of Team S. • A loss of rally is awarded if a served ball contacts antennas within the body of the net. • A loss of rally is awarded if a served ball is intentionally hit before the R1 signals. The Serve (2/4) • Directions: T=True/legal/Proper Procedure/Play continues • F=False/Illegal/Incorrect Procedure/Play stops • Team S = serving team • Team R=receiving team T • A loss of rally is awarded if a served ball travels over the antenna and lands in Team R’s court. • A loss of rally is awarded if a served ball contacts an overhead obstruction over the court of team S. • A loss of rally is awarded if the server steps on, but not over, the end line simultaneously with contact of the serve. • Server A recognizes that she is the improper server, so she tosses and catches the ball to force a re-serve. Before the five seconds for the reserve have elapsed, the proper server takes her place and makes a legal serve. • A loss of rally is awarded if the server’s approach starts outside the hash marks then steps entirely inside the service area, prior to contact of the serve. The Serve (3/4) • Directions: T=True/legal/Proper Procedure/Play continues • F=False/Illegal/Incorrect Procedure/Play stops • Team S = serving team • Team R=receiving team T • It is a line violation when a server’s foot is touching outside the width of the extensions of the sideline at the moment of contact of the serve. • A re-serve shall be declared if a bad toss for serve hits the player’s foot and no attempt to swing at the ball was made by the player. • When a served ball passes under the net, the R1 uses the signal for ball lands in bounds. • Player S1 is awarded a re-serve, then serves two more points before being replaced by S8 is also awarded a re-serve on the next call for serve. • The serve is legal when the ball is contacted eight seconds after the R1’s signal to serve. The Serve (4/4) • Directions: T=True/legal/Proper Procedure/Play continues • F=False/Illegal/Incorrect Procedure/Play stops • Team S = serving team • Team R=receiving team F • The serve is legal when the server attempts a 2nd reserve during that team’s term of service. • The serve is legal when the server bounces the ball off the floor and hits it off the bounce for serve. • The serve is legal when the server’s foot touches (on but not over) the 6 inch extension line of the sideline at the instant the ball is contacted for serve. • The serve is legal when the server’s body is in the air over the serving are boundary lines, having left the floor from on, but not across, the end line. • During the same term of service, the R1 allows the same player a re-serve on her first and fourth serve. Substitution and Libero Replacement (1/7) • Directions: T=True/legal/Proper Procedure/Play continues • F=False/Illegal/Incorrect Procedure/Play stops • Team S = serving team • Team R=receiving team • The libero may serve. • It is legal for a coach to make a substitution, then call a time-out to make a second substitution before the ball is put back in play. • A loss of rally is awarded when an illegal substitution is discovered on the serving team's court. • A substitute approaches the sub zone but returns to her seat before being recognized by the R2. • The substitute waits for the R2 to release her onto the court. Substitution and Libero Replacement (2/7) • Directions: T=True/legal/Proper Procedure/Play continues • F=False/Illegal/Incorrect Procedure/Play stops • Team S = serving team • Team R=receiving team • During a time-out, a player reports to the R2 her number and the number of the player she is substituting for. • A loss of rally is awarded when team S having used one time-out, requests a substitution. It is Team S’s 19th substitution for the set. • A loss of rally is awarded with no time-outs remaining, Team S requests a substitution for a 19th entry. • A coach may not substitute players during a time out. • A coach may request additional substitutions after being granted his/her first request during the same dead ball. Substitution and Libero Replacement (3/7) • Directions: T=True/legal/Proper Procedure/Play continues • F=False/Illegal/Incorrect Procedure/Play stops • Team S = serving team • Team R=receiving team T • A player who has been in the set three times may report for a fourth entry. • A request for substitution shall be made by the head coach and/or the action of a substituting player entering the substitution zone. • A team may be granted substitution request prior to the set, whether or not a player is ill or injured. • A team shall not be penalized if numbers of the substitute and the player being replaced are not reported to the R2 when the substitution occurs during a time-out. • An exceptional substitution shall count as a team substitution if the team has not exhausted its 18 substitutions. Substitution and Libero Replacement (4/7) • Directions: T=True/legal/Proper Procedure/Play continues • F=False/Illegal/Incorrect Procedure/Play stops • Team S = serving team • Team R=receiving team • An injured player who has not been rendered unconscious and who is legally replaced may return to the match at any time, except during the same dead ball. • It is legal for a coach to make a substitution, then call a time-out to make a second substitution before the ball is put back in play. • The coach may be granted a maximum of 18 substitutions per set (excluding exceptional substitutions). • The penalty for an illegal substitution is an unnecessary delay. • It is unnecessary delay when a coach withdraws a request for substitution after it is recognized by the official.
