According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, jobs requiring science, engineering, or technical training will increase 24% between 2004 - 2014 to 6.3 million.. San Mateo Biotechnology Career Pathway is a San Mateo County ROP Program.

6. ROP Biotech Services Industry Internship Students are placed into unpaid or paid lab internship
60 hours of additional training before placement
Summer Internship = 25-30 hrs/wk for 8 weeks
ROP provides Workman’s Comp & Liability Insurance
Many interns continue into employment

Over 5,000 students have been trained in the SMCOE-ROP Biotechnology courses
Over 750 students have completed industry laboratory internships.

Program is being duplicated at several CC/HS sites all over the country
