  1. Microsoft Word Objectives Copy, cut, and paste text. Work with the buttons on the toolbar. Work with the pointer in a program. Work with text and characters in a program.

  2. Explain the use of keyboard shortcuts and key combinations. Perform basic tasks by using the keyboard. Edit and format text.

  3. Work with pictures. Work with language tools (spell check, dictionary).

  5. Today we will study about Microsoft Word.

  6. The area in red is called the Title Bar. Title means “Name.” It shows the names of the open program (Microsoft Word) and the name of the current file.

  7. This file has not been saved so its name is Document 1.

  8. The area in red has the minimize, maximize/restore and close buttons for the program window.

  9. These three buttons are the same buttons you see when you open the Internet.

  10. When you click the minimize button the program is in the taskbar at the bottom of the screen.

  11. If you have many Word files minimized, you will need to choose the one you want from the Taskbar.

  12. When you click the maximize / restore button the program goes back to the same size it was before you minimized it. The program window will fill the screen.

  13. When you click the close button, the program will ask you if you want to save the changes if you have made any changes. Once you have answered the question, the program will close.

  14. The area in red is called the Quick Access Toolbar. • It contains the most commonly used commands in Microsoft Word: • Save • Undo • Repeat

  15. Microsoft Office has the “Ribbon.” The area in red is the Ribbon.

  16. File, Home, Insert, etc… in red are Tabs. Remember we used the word Tab when we have more than one internet window open.

  17. The File Tab menu has commands used with the file such as Save As, and Print.

  18. The Home Tab has commands used with the formatting and editing of text.

  19. The Insert Tab has the commands used with adding something to the document like a table, picture, or shape. Table Picture Shape

  20. To Save a file: • Left Click one time on File. • Move the mouse over Save As.

  21. You can change the name of the file. • Choose where to save the file such as the Desktop. • Save the file as a Word Document. • Click on Save.
