About Sergeant Major • Name: Sergeant - Major Fish • Scientific name: Abudefdufsaxatilis • This scientific name stands for Abudefduf - father, saxa - living among rocks, tilus - tile-like in color. • The reason it is called father is because it is aggressive and bossy to the other inhabitants of the reef.

  3. More info.. • It considered a damsel fish • It can grow up to 8” long. • It is found in the Atlantic Ocean • It lives only near coal reefs • This fish eats Omnivorous, a plankton found in coral reef

  4. Why it is named this? • The Sergeant Major fish receivedit’s name because ofthe 5 black stripes on it’s body resemble the 5 bars on a sergeants uniform.

  5. Info Frenzy • It is extremely hard to determine the sex of the Sergeant Major Fish because it changes sex. • Many damsel fish change sex, converting from male to female over their lifetimes.
