Preparing Solutions with Dilutions Yes I know that rhymes
Dilution • We use dilutions to prepare new solutions from known volume or concentration of initial solutions • The solution with higher amount of solute (moles) at the same temperature and volume is considered more concentrated • The other solution is considered diluted
Dilution Formula c1v1= c2v2 Where: • c1= the original concentration • v1 = the original volume • c2 = the new concentration • v2 = the new TOTAL volume
Example • Determine the concentration of a hydrochloric acid solution prepared by diluting 150 mL of concentrated hydrochloric acid (12 mol/L) to a total volume of 2.00 L. • What volume of water must be added to the original solution to achieve this new concentration?
