Marine Stratus Experiment (MASE) • Objectives- • Examine the effects of aerosol loading, composition and size distribution on cloud droplet number concentrations and size distributions. • Characterize the effects of turbulence and cloud properties such as liquid water content, droplet number concentration and droplet dispersion on the initiation of drizzle. • Gather in-situ cloud data suitable for examination of the dependence of the autoconversion rate on droplet size distribution and number concentration.

MASRAD Scientific Objectives • Investigate the general relationship between cloud mesoscale structure, aerosols, cloud microphysics, drizzle and radiation in marine stratus clouds • Investigate the effect of aerosol on the amount of solar radiation absorbed by clouds

Call for Participation • Ideal opportunity for ASP to begin indirect effects studies. • Availability of facilities that may not be available for future studies. • Good location with lots of clouds. • Encourage ASP scientists to participate by refining the scientific goals of the project, by providing useful measurements for the G-1 or at Pt. Reyes, or by using the data to achieve ASP scientific goals.
