Everyday Light and Electricity Daniel Knable Mellissa Brownell Natalie Donnermeyer
Our Experiment • Foot Candle Light Meter- Bring in different sheets of glass to show how different piece of glass have different measurements of light • Kill A Watt-Bring in different electronics from home like, Phone Charger, Hair Straightener, etc.
Foot Candle Light Meter • Used for photography, film, television, conservation lighting, and the lighting industry • Measures the heat produced by light • One foot candle is approximately 10.764 lux
Light Measured • Clear Glass- 64 • Tinted Glass- 35 • Colored Glass- 32 • No glass- 74 • Desk Level No Glass- 41 • Light Measured from laptop – 7 • Light Measured from the table- -2 • Paper- 21
Conclusion for Light Measured • The light measured without glass was the higher he lowest reading 74 • Highest reading for the type of glass is clear which is 64 and the lowest is colored is 32 • Without any glass the highest reading was at the desk at 41 and the lowest with out glass is -2
Kill A Watt • Measures electricity used in outlets and appliances • Home owner can use this to help consume energy • Electricians have to use it to see how much electricity is going through a circuit • Unit used to measure (Volts, AMPs, Watts and, Heartz) Controlled Test Before Objects • Volts- 117.8 Heartz- 59.9 • AMPs- .04 • Watts- 0
Objects Tested Cell phone charger Hair Straightener • Volts- 118.1 • AMPs- .08 • Watts- 5 • Heartz- 59.9 • Volts- 117.5 • AMPs- 2.32 • Watts- 136 • Heartz- 59.9
Objects Tested Fan T.V. • Volts- 118.2 • AMPs- .45 • Watts- 30 • Heartz- 59.9 Fan on low • Volts- 118.0 • AMPs- .34 • Watts- 24 • Heartz- 59.9 • Volts- 118.1 • AMPs- .29 • Watts- 28 • Heartz- 59.9
Object Tested Sharpener Computer charger • Volts- 117.8 • AMPs- 1.75 • Watts- 69 • Heartz- 59.9 • Volts- 118.0 • AMPs-.41 • Watts- 47 • Heartz- 59.9
Conclusion for Kill A Watts • The fan on high produced the most Volts (118.2) • The sharpener produced the most AMPs (1.75) • The hair straightener produced the most Watts (136) • The hair straightener produced the least Volts (117.5) • The charger produced the least AMPs (.08) • The charger produced the least Watts (5) • All object had the same number for Heartz (59.9)
Overall on Lab • Our energy type was electric from the heat from the lights or the current of the outlets they produce electric energy • Electrical energy is supplied by a power plant in our case which is coal from the power plant in Moscow, Ohio on the Ohio River • The energy goes from the plat to a transformer which then it goes to a transmission line then a neighborhood transformer then a distribution line and finally to local residents
