Introduction • To be taken after completion of coursework • Registered on-line CE00MS Comprehensive Examination. • Fill in ‘CE Form’ (hard copy form which will be distributed during the briefing) • Tentative Date for Comprehensive Examination: Date: 21 October 2011 (tentative) Time: 9.00 am – 12.00 noon Place: Bilik Al-Hadi, FBMK
Introduction (cont…) • Students should be prepared for the CE • Suggest that students form study groups to review materials for CE • Must aim to pass the CE at one sitting • Cases of students not passing after re-exam is few • Cases of students not graduating even though after passing CE
Objectives of Comprehensive Examination To evaluate the student’s: overall understanding regarding the areas of study ability to integrate knowledge of theories and research pertaining to issues fundamental in the field of study understanding of relevant and up-to-date research design and methodologies
Objectives of Comprehensive Examination • Students must show an understanding of basic concepts and uses of communication theories, research methods, statistics, organizational communication, corporate communication, public relations and integrated marketing communication.
Methods • A 3 hour in class examination • Closed book • Students must answer 3 questions from two sections.
Section A 1. Communication theory 2. Communication research methods 3. Statistics for communication research
Section B • Organizational communication • Advanced public relations • Theory and practice of corporate communication • Integrated Marketing Communication
Students must answer one question from section A and another question from section B. The third question can be from either section • Questions in English • Students must plan their answer well, must be precise and concise in their writing • Students need to manage time well – allocate one hour per question
Eligibilty • Students must have completed all credit requirements • Have a CGPA of 3.0 and above • Must fill up the form ‘registration for comprehensive examination’ available from the graduate studies counter at the beginning of the semester. • Has paid all tuition fees
Grading • Students are given a ‘pass’ or ‘fail’ • In order to pass students must passed at least two (one from group A subjects, and another from group B subjects) out of the three questions • Passing marks is 50% and is based on the average of the 3 questions
Passing Requirements • Passing marks 50% • Pass both sections with average marks 50%
