7 Things We Know About The New Bridgerton Series On Netflix
Fans of period drama and romance are in for a treat with the news that a new adaptation of the popular Bridgerton romance novels is coming to Netflix. With some big names attached, both behind and in front of the camera. Here are seven things we know about the Bridgerton series on Netflix 1. The show is based on the Bridgerton series of books written by American novelist Julia Quinn. There are eight books in all and each book follows the lives and romances of the eight children of the Viscount Bridgerston - Anthony, Benedict, Colin, Daphne, Eloise, Francesca, Gregory and Hyacinth. 2. The opening series focuses on Daphne Bridgerton, the eldest as she prepares to make her debut in Regency London and find a suitable match. However, will her family approve of her choices? 3. The story begins in the Regency era in England, which was between 1811 and 1820, a period when King George III was deemed too ill to rule and his son, the Prince Regent operated as a proxy ruler. 4. The series is produced by Shonda Rhimes, the creator of Grey’s Anatomy and Scandal. It is Rhimes’s first production for Netflix and the showrunner will be Shondaland stalwart Chris Van Dusen. Rhimes and Van Dusen are also executive producers along with fellow Shondalander Betsy Beers.
5. Among the familiar faces in the cast are Derry Girls star Nicola Coughlan and Adjoa Andoh of Silent Witness while screen royalty Dame Julie Andrews features as Lady Whistledown, the narrator of the show. 6. Filming for Bridgerton took place entirely in England during 2019, with locations in London, Bath and Somerset. 7. The first series is eight episodes long and drops on Netflix on Christmas Day.
